    My New Leica M9

After having a doubt more than 1 year whether to buy or not to by Leica M camera... finally I decided to get Leica M9
I never use rangefinder camera at all, in fact I even never touch any rangefinder camera.
I always using Nikon DSLR since the first day I learn photography.

Now i'm using M9, this camera is so beautiful and so simple.
    I really like it
So far I only have 2 lenses, which are Summilux 24/1.4 and Summilux 50/1.4 ASPH.
I'm still learning how to use Leica M9 properly.
    Anyway,
last sunday was my first time using leica M9 in the real world.
I went to Disney On ice show with M9 + Lux 50.
    Set the camera to Iso 500 - 800 , aperture F1.4 - F2 max

Here are some shots that i would like to share :

    super lowlight shot

Andree: Congratulations. The photos are great. Exceptional color and exposure. Those are two of the best lenses that Leica makes! Add a 75mm Summicron and you're covered.
Thanks for sharing and keep posting. Cheers, Matt

    Hi matt

    Thank you
    Glad that you like them
I have read a lot about which leica Lenses are good to buy from this forum.
Summilux 24/1.4 cost like a bomb! but I think it's worth it.

Congrats, Andree. Sparkling color rendering !
I come to think of the time when you showed us some amazing captures with your ~ 3 kg AF-S Nikkor 200 mm f/2 G + 1 kg D3 = 4 kg all together.
    Talk about downsizing
Did you keep some of your reflex equipment or have you gone strictly rangefinder now ?

    Hi Steen
hehehehee yaa, I'm tired of that set-up already, so heavy.
I still own Nikon D700 + several Nikon lenses, still undecided what to do with it.
Not sure to sell all my Nikon gear or keep it
will see in the next 1 or 2 months.

some more shots from yesterday (all by summilux 50/1.4) @F1.4

Hi Andree - good to see you here! Hope you and your family are all doing well!

Fantastic photos, I really enjoy the second set much more. Looks like you have no problem at all "adapting" to a rangefinder

Nice shots - you've certainly picked up on the essence of rangefinder shooting wide open. As mentioned, that's a very nice starter outfit!

    Re: My New Leica M9

hi Panda81 : nice to see u here
    My family are doing great
Yes, I was not having a hard time adjusting my shooting style from DSLR to rangefinder camera. However, I'm still not very good with the framing, specially the lux 24. It's not easy to frame this lens using standard viewfinder.
I might need Leica 24mm external viewfinder.

Hi Jono, hehhehee Finally I'm shooting with Leica M9
I'm still amazed with the IQ of the picture.

Hi Marc, thx u ok, i will post more of it

Hi Graham, shooting wide open with rangefinder camera is very tricky, I need to learn a lot more about it.

btw, here are some picture from Lux 24

Deepdiver: Great photos. The farmer shots are special. I've been shooting the 24mm lux without the viewfinder. I just picked up a Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 ZM; so, I found a used 21/24/28 Leica viewfinder. I'll see how that works. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Matt.

Congrats! You've got some really nice shots there, too - especially the farm work. Gotta love the smooth images that come out of that thing.

Of course, starting with an M9 and two killer 'Luxes isn't a bad way to go. I might suggest one last lens to complete your kit; the 1,4/75 Lux.

    Re: My New Leica M9

hi m_driscoll: thx since you are also using lux 24 on M9, what do u think shooting 24 lux without the external viewfinder?
for me, to be honest, I think I'm having a hard time
my framing were so bad, so i had to re-take some more pictures with 24 lux, in order to get the "correct" framing.
I think I want to get Leica 24mm external viewfinder.
    Any experience using this?

    Hi HiredArm : Hahhahaa LOL

Hi Double Negative : Yes, i'm thinking to get one more lens... however, I still undecided, not sure which one to get.
    Lux 75/1.4 ? Zeiss 85/2 ZM ?
I'm also having a hard time to decide whether to get 35mm lens or not

Coming from DSLR's World to Rangefinder's world is not easy.
DSLR's Lenses are "Cheap" compare to rangefinder lens.
I don't need to think twice to get DSLR Lenses, but now, i have to think more than twice to get rangefinder lenses (Leica Lenses)

The VF is really useful to me, especially when I have the 1.4x magnifier permanently on the M9.

A better comparison is between the 75 Cron or even the 90 Cron. Both are stunning but more expensive. The Zeiss is a really large lens.

Hi hacker, thx you for the picture.
ZM 85/2 looks so FAT hahhahaa
btw, are u always using 1.4x magnifier on ur Leica M9 ?
    Can u still see the 50mm line ( when u are using lux 50 + 1,4x magnifier) ?

    thx

Does the Zeiss 85 bring up the 90 or the 75 frame lines? If so, are they relatively accurate? I have the 1.4X mag on order ... can you see the 35 frame lines, or is it mostly for 50mm on up? I want it mostly for the 50/0.95 and 75 Lux. but if it worked with the 35 that would be great.

    Thanks,

    -Marc

Yes, the 1.4x magnifier is always on the M9. That is why I advocate the use of the VF. That also means that I have a VF for each focal length, e.g. 18, 21, 24mm, or the Frakenfinder if I use the WATE.

90mm frameline. And yes, you can see the 35 frameline. It works great on the Noctilux 50 f/0.95 and the 75 Lux.

Andree, I see from your other posts that you are not adverse to using large and fast lenses (Nikon 200 f/2). I would highly recommend either of these for your indoor shots such as the excellent ones you have presented here :

It is hard to shoot WA pictures without the use of an external viewfinder with the M9, especially for 24mm and wider. And since I use the 1.4x magnifier on the M9, it is too troublesome to take the magnifier on and off at times.

I seriously detest magnifiers. In my experience they only serve to magnify existing vision problems... Anyway, as viewfinders go, I find Zeiss are the best, Voigtlander offer best value for money, and Leica comes in a rather skimpy third...

Are you referring to the latest brass brightline Leica finders? They are different from the previous versions.

A voigtlander viewfinder came with a used 21mm Elmarit. After using the viewfinders with the Cambo WRS and Phase One back it's wonderful. I haven't tried the Leica or Zeiss viewfinders, but the voiglander is fine with me!
