    Don,
Really nice stuff with the 135mm. Just curious, is it hard to focus the 135 on the M9?

Thanks Steve. The 135 is a little more tricky to focus than even the 90mm. I learned very quickly to focus on the horns. There's a heck of a lot that shouldn't be viewed unless heavily medicated due to the focus (or lack of).

Here are a few more images from the immigration reform march I shot earlier in the year. Personally, I find it fascinating to try to capture the emotions of the people and events caught in the middle ... between the increasingly politically polarized ends of the spectrum that have come to define American living.

Since I have a camera and can make the effort to try to attend these events, I'm consciously trying to more often seek out as many of these situations as I can. It's mostly out of curiosity, a need to understand an issue and the challenge of trying to photographically express the emotion expressed by the participants.

Sometimes my efforts fall flat ... but at other times, if I feel like I'm getting closer to inserting the viewer into the event. In those instances, I feel like I've succeeded in providing insight into the human condition that is more than just a manufactured sound bite.

Many apologies for indulging in my philosophical meandering.

    Kurt

Kurt: Well seen! It's instructive to read what you intended to convey with these photos. I think you're succeeding. Knowing what the event is, helps to see the people in that context, and interpret their emotions. I especially like these two: the first with the blurred, but readable sign, and the vector to the older women, who's probably not an immigrant, but, carries a sign about "promises"; the second with the flag and the man's bowed head, he's probably looking at his feet, but, you can read more into it.

    Cheers, Matt

    Thanks for the info Don
I find myself when shooting my 75, that I want more pull,
Just not sure if I should go with the 90 or go all the way with the 135..
Which 135 are you using and which one are you waiting on?

I've been using the used one to shoot landscape and now wildlife and really like it. Yesterday Sandy & I decided to take a trip from Jackson into Yellowstone and returning late yesterday afternoon we encountered this herd of bison which were all captured using the 135mm.

I'm sorry that I've been very lax in commenting on the great work here lately however our shooting days are close to 10 hours then we also have the computer time as well. We're averaging around 14 hour days so far and we still have at least 2-weeks to go. Today is our first real rest day although we are planning on going out this afternoon for evening light.

More image are or will be on our blog shortly.

Steve: Congratulations on the new lens! I was waiting to see your first shots.
    1. Great light flare and "reflection smear". Like the low angle. License plate's amusing.
    2. The tone suits the photo, Suitably nostalgic.
    3. I did a search. You must be at the Mass. Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. Nice juxtaposition of the flags and statue.
    4. This one required some study. The texture of the trees and the bit of road and car make a nice B & W and could convey various meanings (which, I'll discuss with my shrink)
    5. Graphically and color-wise, this one's perfect.
    6. Excellent composition!
    7. Nice isolation and look. Just enough grain.

    Cheers, Matt

That's me ( Markmont = Mark Montgomery ) in the link and I PROMISE you I nor any other professional yoyoers can do those tricks on a classic wooden yoyo. Granted the person yoyoing dictates the tricks, the right tools (yoyo, string, bearing) are still very necessary. I can however say that a modern day 20 dollar yoyo can still allow the average good yoyoer to do the same tricks on say the most expensive $100+ yoyo.

Mark: I stand corrected and very impressed!

Dan, first, welcome to the party (it really is that...good times, good people, inspiring images).

Second, your series of images is really outstanding. I love the ambiance and atmosphere, and the themed series. Great work, and can't wait to see more!

ashwinrao1: What lens did you use to shoot the baby?
Mark, great stuff. The 2 baby shots were taken with the wonderful 50 mm f/1.4 summilux pre-asph (last design with 0.7 m focussing). It's a perfect portraiture lens, and given the M9's sensor, images can be cropped to get closer...

Just gotta say, really amazing work from everyone here, and the consistency is startling. Welcome to the newer contributors. I remember being a new member just a few months ago, and this particular forum and thread feels so much like home. I have had the great joy of meeting quite a few of you in person, and look forward to meeting others soon as my travels (or yours) allow!

    Best!
