The Latest & Greatest Fun w/Digital M Images

Sixty years ago last week, my parents were married. Oddly, there was only one photograph taken of them that day (below on the left). It was taken with my Father's Leica IIIc (5cm f2 Summitar lens). On their 60th Anniversary, I took them to the same place (well, as close as I could get, the gardens have been expanded, so we're about 50 feet off), and took this image with my M8, and the 35 Cron ASPH. The wind was blowing on their wedding day, and my mother reached up to keep her hat on her head as the shot was taken. She wanted to pose the same for the shot I took.

(BTW, I have the camera the original was taken with, and took a shot of them with it as well. Just haven't had a chance to process the film yet.)

That might be the sweetest diptych ever, Lloyd! I love it.

    Here's one from the M8 with my 1959 50/1.4 Summilux-M:

    Lloyd:

Belated congrats to your parents. I definitely notice a change in the landscaping and the cocrete curbs between the 2 photos.

King of the world, indeed, Maggie. Nice shot. BTW, it's partly your 'sentimental journey' shots that inspired me to take this. Thanks.

Thank you Keith. Much appreciated. The curbing has changed. I don't think the subjects have changed much, however. At least not personality-wise.

I'm honored to have had even the tiniest part in such a wonderful photo, Lloyd!

I'll pass on your compliment to Bob as some extra chin scritches this afternoon.

Wow, what a great diptych! I love that. I want to see the film shot when it gets back from processing.

Here's one I grabbed outside my office yesterday, after a brief rainstorm:

If you want to see it bigger, try this link:

Trying something a little different than what I normally show here. These types of shots (at least what I'm attempting) is the type of photography I really enjoy but don't really know how to create - moody scenes that make you wonder about the situation...

All three were with M9 + Zeiss 35mm f/2 Biogon.

Thanks, Steve! The radio is a Grundig Satellit 800; I've had it since 2000 or so. The Internet has taken over for it in a lot of ways, but sometimes it's fun to just twirl the dial and see what you get.

Was it shot on Kodachrome Lloyd? (The original not the new shot).
I love the old photo, odd that only 1 photo was taken on that day.

Hi David. Yes, the original was taken with Kodachrome. I wish I would have planned ahead better. I would loved to use Kodachrome to take the 60th shot, but I couldn't reach my friend who has a bunch in his freezer in time to make it happen.

It is odd, given that my mother's father was an avid photographer, and usually took lots of pictures. I think (and I'm just guessing) it might have been that he wasn't actually all that happy about the marriage. (It grew on him later, mostly after I was born... and my father was willing to live in Boston.) Grandpa was an East Coast person; born in New York City, and having raised his family in Boston. My father was a half-breed (actually more like quarter) indian from (as grandpa saw it) some god-forsaken wasteland out West. As we were setting up to take the picture last week, my father commented about the fact that Grandpa hadn't even bothered to get out a camera.

Lloyd, a couple of gorgeous shots with excellent stories behind them.

Maggie, exquisite bokeh ... and the cat is nice too.

    Reed, lovely greens.

Panda, as the others have mentioned all three are nice but the third is on another level.

Don, you, the southwest and the M9 are turning out to be quite the threesome.

Bart, gotta love what the look from the 75lux.

    Woody: A coven?
Steve/Rayan/Lloyd: Thank you, gentlemen! "When you're a Jet...."
Lloyd: Thanks for keeping us organized.

Re: The Latest & Greatest Fun w/Digital M Images

Since we're all friends here, I thought that I'd offer up a confession. Several months ago I sold one of my all-time favorite lenses to acquire a different lens. I missed it so much that I had to find another ...

So, with much anticipation I waited for my friendly UPS man to drop off another 75lux. He did so this morning and all is right again in my Leica universe. Here are a few images from this afternoon as I took a quick stroll around town.

    Lloyd to your Parents
    Jerry - wonderful
Maggie . . . wondercat - ours is the queen of the tractor
    Kurt - magic
Bart - I missed queens day this year
Don, wonderful shots from Tumacácori, I'm not sure about the blackandwhite recovery, but love the rest.

Here is Echo the mistress of the Fergie:
I liked the curve of her back and the wheel guard
M9 with some 35 'lux or other (wide open)
