Re: The Very Latest & Greatest Fun w/Digital M Images

Ashwin, I don't even know where to begin. The Taj Mahal images are very interesting, because that's not what we tend to see in pix of the place. "Holy Cow"... well, I saw that and thought, "holy cow!". The image of the folks by the river with the corporate logos on the bags they're carrying is very interesting. Branding is ubiquitous now, and that's sort of funny, and very much a shame at the same time. I love the people pix especially, because that is the soul of India. And the Varanasi Puja shots are spectacular. Thanks again for sharing.

Re: The Very Latest & Greatest Fun w/Digital M Images

Thanks on my humble photo of the hardhat Ashwin. I want to shoot more so bad. Rain continues, but I will find something to shoot today anyway.

is that what they call line dancing Ashwin? Interesting photos, thanks for sharing. Wow, I just made it back through your set, some powerful stuff here, awesome job. The one of the small Woman spreading out things, great, and this last black and white, quite nice. Well, there are so many, I can't cover them all.

Like Lloyd, I felt the Gap logo was out of place, it was interesting, yet at same time, took away from a image that has a past tense conotation, but it is what it is, it's real life, we take it all.

Ashwin these are truly amazing images, your talent shines through. I'm quite new here so I'm not familiar with your work or your set up but I'd love to know a little bit more about the cameras and glass you used for these.

Thanks Lloyd, Photojazz, Joe, Cary, and Henry!

It's great that the images ring true for you all.

As for my gear used, I took a 24 lux, 35 Lux II, 50 lux asph, and 90 macro-elmar with me to India, along with 1 M9. I also used an X1, but didn't take as many shots (nor have I get posted any).

That will come soon, as the X1 was more of a back up for me...but a relatively worthy one!

    Wow, more great photos, Ashwin.

You should put together a book of photos from India.

No new trips, so I'm reduced to scavenging through older images to find anything that might be worth processing.

Here are two from an April trip to Vegas. Using the 24 lux.

Great image, David. I love the conversion and the spacing here. Thank you so much for the kind words. I am starting to consider putting a book together given the feedback that I have gotten....thanks!

Well, I'd better come clean. The top arrow is a permanent one and points the right way. The lower arrow is actually only a winter marker for a snowmobile trail which has nothing to do with the lookout. But you'd have to be "local" to know it!

Thanks for clearing that up, Bill. I do have a question about the "Natural Retreat". You wanna borrow one of my Super Tele's for when that place is open? Just post the pix, and we'll be happy.

I liked the light when I got up this morning in my bathroom, and I felt I could make something of it, maybe I should say lack of light...

Thanks Lloyd, that's curly willow branches in a tall vase you can't see, and the window panes have rice paper covering under the window pane dividers, that are decorative. This filters the light, and replaces the need for curtains here, and it also creates a photo enhanced feature.

Here's a shot I took when my M9 first came, it shows more the true colors and appearance during the day... The ceiling is cathedral, is why you see the color break, and the slotted opening goes to shower area, I did that cutout to allow shower to vent humidity out by design. There's a 90 gallon jacuzzi tub under the window.

It is so nice to now be able to upload photos again, new cable modem came today, finally!

Nice idea. We have a window that could use something like that. Gonna show this to Mimi. Thanks.

Sure Lloyd. I picked up that Rice paper window cover stuff at Lowes. It's actually adhesive based, but I never went through all that, I just cut it, and wedged it back there, it could be better with proper adhesion. But I wanted to make sure it's right before sticking it. once up there I said, ahh, it's ok, that way if I want to take it out, it just comes right out.

Friday I picked up the ZM25 & started playing with Silver Efex Pro 2.. been happy with the results, from both.

    M8 | ZM25 | Silver Efex Pro 2 for all

    Mrs. working out this morning

Weather was largely uncooperative today.. but did manage about 45minutes of shooting before the rain truely picked up.

    Caught this little devil..

Been marveling at how long this car could stay this way without a ticket.. note it hasn't actually snowed here in about a week..

A quick ride home as the rain picked up..

Great shots all around, Steve. I think that M8 ZM25 combo is a match made in heaven! BTW, how'd you score SEP2?!!? I have it on order, and just talked to the Nik folks yesterday. They told me it's still not available. I'm really looking forward to it.

SEP2 - Obviously I'm not paying enough attention to what I download :-). Must be SEP v1. Doh!

ZM25 - I'm coming to that conclusion Lloyd!
Liking my results more so than when I tried a 28mm.

Well, whichever version, you've used well. The tonalities, in that shot of the abandoned car, for example, are really terrific.

(If you got v1 since Dec. 6th, you'll get a free upgrade to v2. I watched an announcement webinar on Friday, and was very impressed by the improvements in v2.)

Thanks Lloyd, there's always something about leading lines into a shot. I did process fairly heavily, tilting colors after the BW conversion to add heavy contrasting zones to the image.

OK, fine! Be like that! Post miraculous landscapes and travel pics. I will not be cowed! OK, yes I will. Very cowed. Extremely... nevertheless, I will post!

I just started a course in portraiture and landscapes. First assignment - natural light portrait. Window and reflector sort of thing. Here are two. M9 and 50 Summilux ver1.

Focus misses the eyes here, but I like it anyway.

Another front focus. Not sure if it's the lens or my rangefinder inexperience or both. Serves me right for trying to shoot f/1.4.

    Thanks for this wonderful forum,

    Matt

    Ashwin,
I am just starting out with an M8 and am researching raw pprocessors. I really like the look you are achieveing and wonder if you would be kind enough to share your processing techinque and what RAW processor(s) you are using, psrticularly for the B&W? These are superb. Thanks.

    David,
As with my comments to Ashwin - beautifull renditions. I am just starting out and you folks have such great techniques and I want to learn more. Both you and Ashwin have a "look" that I would like to learn more about. Would you be able to share what RAW processor you are using for these - again especially for the B&W conversion?

    Thanks.

Nice shots Thrice. Once owned the V1 18. Zeiss optics are very nice. I still own 4 F-mounts.

Don't know how I missed this. Lots of ironic humor here. Nicely seen and captured.

    Matt
Nice ones, Matt. And fear not to post, you're among friends.

Hard to say if it's really front focus. At that f1.4, and close to minimum focal distance, the subject doesn't have to move much (or even you taking a breath, can move your point of focus). Test it with a static subject, and on a tripod or other solid placement. Regardless, you images here retain a lot of character.

    Thanks Lloyd!

The forum is great and supportive. The one being critical is me.

One of the rare instances that I regretted not having my Canon with a 400mm lens with me. A white-tailed eagle, National Park Seewinkel Neusiedler See, Austria. Taken on an M9 with 90 mm Elmarit.
