M8 - Lens lineup question

Guest
Greetings!

(1) What is your M8 lens lineup? (Apologies if you find this irritating, but I like to read about people's subjective thoughts.)

(2) When you press the shutter, is there a bit of a stutter step? The film bodies don't seem to have this (except for the M7).

Thanks!

The shutter step is to wake up the camera and to hold the exposure.
My bloated lens lineup is:
CV12
CV15
WATE
21/2.8
28/2
35/2
35/1.4
50/2.5
50/1.4 pre asph
CV 75/2.5
75/2
90/2 pre asph
90/2 apo-asph
All this proves is that I cannot make up my mind.

Maybe I can help you feel more decisive... care to part with the 50/1.4 pre asph?

Zeiss 21 f/4.5
Leica 35 f/2.5 Summarit
Leica 50 f/2 Summicron (old version without integral hood)

That's it for now....unless a 28mm Summicron tempts me.

Bob, Peter, & Jaap,

You guys just floored me with the lenses you have. How do you decide what to put in the bag?;)

I have been doing alot of lens trimming recently, due to my fall off the medium format cliff. (We really need to rename it officially as a CLIFF, it is not a slippery slope anymore.)

My M lens kit is a 28/2 ASPH, 35/2 ASPH, 50/1.4 ASPH, 90/2.8 . If I just want to take the camera with me for a casual evening it is the 35 Cron ASPH by itself since I really like the 50mm focal length in full frame or film. If I am out to use the M8 for anything serious, I take the 28, 50, 90 as a set.

This same lens set works great on my M7 also. The only change is that for a single lens, I use the 50 Lux ASPH and the three lens kit becomes the 35, 50, 90 set. My M7 is a .72 finder that has had the frame lines changed by Leica NJ to only have the 35, 50, 90 lines.

Best,

Ray

Ray,
on the M8 when I just am walking arounf it is the 28 cron.
A light kit is the 21, 28, and 50
When I travel it is usually two bodies, the 12, 21, 28, 50, and 75 or 90
When I "go landscape" the wate comes out (although this lens is getting pretty lonely)
When I shoot the MP, it is usually the 24, 35, (50 or 75) 90 combo
When I expect to be in european small towns or narrow streets, I tend to use the 24 more than the 28.
I suppose that I should sell it all except for the 21/28/50 and buy a 90 summarit
but I probably won't

Zeiss 18

Leica 21 pre-asph

24 asph

28 cron

35 lux asph

50 lux pre

90 APO

I find I am mostly using 18, 28, 35, 50 on the M8. The 28 is my walk around lens, though probably least used on my M7, which sees the 24 and 35 most.

The Leica 21 I never use due to lack of finder and filter. It needs to be sold but has a case of "Schneideritis" (bubbly paint on the interior) so I know I won't get much for it. The 50 lux I'm also considering selling though not sure what I could replace it with - everything is so damn expensive now! Maybe consolidate the 50 and 90 into a 75 cron might be a good way to cover the long end. I rarely carry the 90 as it's such a chunk.

Well, I’ve been scolded for lamenting too much so I’ll try and keep it simple: 50-lux, 24-Elmarit, 35-cron and 28-cron (sold). Now that I played with these, I only need/want the 50-lux & 28-cron for use on my M8.
Regards,

I've tried – and enjoyed – quite a few in a short span of time. I'm now down to these:

CV 15mm

v4 35mm 'cron

Noctilux

Bob, Peter, & Jaap,

Hi Ray- I have 2 M8's, an M7 and an M5. The rigid 50 cron lives on the M7, and the 50/lux asph on the M5. I like the 50mm FL the best on RF bodies, and the chrome rigid goes on the chrome M7, the black 50 lux on the black M5.
The 2 M8s have either the zeiss 18 and 28 cron, or the 28 cron and the 35 lux on camera, with a 70 and 90 ready to go. I always go with 2 bodies, but sometimes 2 M8, sometimes M8 + film. Once I get the used 90 APO-asph, I'll probably decide between it and the 70 cron, but don't hold me to it. The noctilux comes out, both film and digital, when I want/need F1. The 75 lux is my preferred portrait lens on both film and digital. The CV 15 is for when I want the smallest, lightest rig, and when IR is not an issue, as it's my only unfiltered lens. The 24/2.8 is my preferred landscape lens. The 90 elmarit is when I want light, super fast focusing (odd term for MF but man that lens snaps into focus), walk around all day, tourist type lens. The 135, well, I don't really use much it but it rocks. The 460, well, it's cool, but unused. So, in the end, they mostly all get put to work, er, play, more than not! best...Peter

What I use...
CV 12
21 Elmarit
28 Cron
35 Cron IV
50 Lux Pre Asph
75 Cron Apo Asph
90 Summarit

If I were to pare back my basic kit would be 12, 21, 28 50

I would sell off 35 and either the 75 or 90 but want to see what Photokina brings. If we get a pleasant surprise then the question is at what crop factor. So before making expensive decisions I will now wait before making anymore lens changes.

Own but don't use right now and will sell once I get around to it
CV21, CV28 (f3.5), CV35 (f2.5), CV75

Sold, CV15, 50 cron, 90 macro.

Yikes!!!!!!!! It has only been 11 months!
Also, I have spoiled myself rotten with some of the best Leica lenses which has made the decisions on what to use on a D300 so much more difficult!

28 and 50 stay on my m8's, however I would not part with any of them.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I need to buy the whole lot, and then weed out one lens per year. Fortunately, I've done the buying, so now comes the hard part.

None of you guys seem to have the Zeiss 15 2.8 ZM. Any particular reason why... it's a stellar lens (that I want to sell or trade) :) Oh, yeah, please don't tell me it's too expensive... not you guys.
