i heard that focusing on a rangefinder like the m9 needs to be adjusted every so often.

just wondering is that like 1 year, 2 year, never if not bounced around?

I would go with "almost never" if not bounced around. I have some rangefinder cameras that have not been adjusted in over 30 years, from the last time I bounced it. Others required adjustment upon arrival through the mail. They might have been bounced.

I've not had a problem with either of two M3's, the M8, or M9. The latter is new.

The cameras are generally very robust, so if used normally, without babying it yet also without knocking it about, it should stay adjusted indefinitely. Its the sharp knocks that can cause the rangefinder to go out of adjustment, but even thats not always the case.
