I concur. I ADORE my C Sonnar 50/1,5 and expect to be equally smitten with the wee Biogon.
+2 The 35 C is a nice little walkabout lens. I bought my copy a couple of years ago to use with the GXR and now I like it even more on the M9. Here is another shot taken today with the 35 2.8 C ZM on the M-E.

Thanks for the concern, Mikal!

Rob posted your comment on my facebook, so I decided to pop back in here...

Rob was right, I had a really rough school term with lots of work and very little time to do it... then a very packed holiday, and now I've just started my first co-op term and am working in an architecture firm :) I've pretty much stopped checking my photography sites (RFF, stevehuff, japan camera hunter, and of course, GetDPI)... which kind of sucks seeing how I was on here everyday before...

I hope to start posting more , but that's something I can't promise... I miss posting here though. I that GetDPI holds my most favourite online community, and some of the best images I've ever seen.

So... I suppose I'll start catching up in the next few posts!

Near the end of my school term, I barely took any photos. No time... my attention was devoted 100% to work... which really sucked.

I had found a placement in an architecture firm in Toronto, KPMB Architects, for my upcoming co-op term, though Hillary had a lot of trouble finding a job in the same city... she had to take a job in her home town of Vancouver, all the way on the other end of the country. This meant that we had to spend about three months apart :( We spent our last few days together and tried to make the best of them... but no amount of time spent together would make up for the time we'd have apart... no amount of time spent together made the goodbye any easier...

I took this the day we drove her to the airport...

We decided to start a little photo journal to document our days apart, so we would know what the other was up to :p Here it is: Days Apart

Here are a select few images... some self portraits... nobody to take a photo of anymore :(

From the school term, when we visited Toronto! Hillary and I on the roof garden of 401 Richmond :) Taken with the Pentax 67!

Boxing Day at the Eaton Centre...

My boxing day spoils! New clothes for work :)

A day out with my friends :)

I suppose this photo deserves a post of it's own...

Here's what I wrote for it on my flickr:

I feel like photography exposes the photographer more than it exposes the subject (pun unintended). When you see a photograph, you're seeing the world as captured by the photographer and what he/she wanted you to see. A photograph isn't only a portal into the world within the photograph, but the mind of the photographer. The photograph and the subject of the photograph are... subject to the photographer's intentions and vision.

With that in mind, I feel as if nude photography and street photography have a lot in common. A scene or a person can be captured in a way that exploits a subject, or glorifies the subject... it's all up to the photographer.

When it comes to this issue within street photography, I always reference Bruce Davidson's Brooklyn Gang. Davidson spent a year of his life photographing and documenting a gang, but instead of capturing gang violence and criminal activity, he captured the delicate moments of life as a gang member. What you saw weren't gritty photographs of hardened men and women, but soft photographs of teenage life. The viewer doesn't see the gang members in their entirety, just what the photographer wanted the viewer to see.

With nude photography, there is a very fine line between degrading your subject and presenting your subject. There are many examples throughout the web that show this... a simple change in attire, pose, angle, lighting, expression can make the difference between a nude photograph and pornography. It's all up to the photographer (and the model) to show the viewers what their vision is.

I found a project last night that shows this idea almost perfectly. Check out the death of youth - (Warning, NFSW: nudity). The photographer is photographing models in staged scenes that reflect the dream life he wish he lived as a young man, and won't be able to live anymore as he hits 30 years old.

And finally... :)

From Brookfield place in Toronto... beautiful trusses...

And one from my work place, KPMB :)

I started work at Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects (KPMB) yesterday (Jan 7). The work is relaxing, the people are nice, and the location is cool... but it makes me kind of sad that I only get an hour or two to talk to Hillary on work days, assuming I get home and eat by 8pm!

I'm a marketing assistant at KPMB. At first I was kind of skeptical about the position. I didn't get to do any drafting, modelling, or CAD work... so it felt like I wasn't even applying my architecture school skills. But then I realized that as a marketing assistant, I get to learn how to lay out panels, use the adobe suite to it's full potential, and use those skills to better my work and portfolio. Best of all, I get to see and experience all there is in an architecture firm, without being a CAD monkey :p I might not be doing hardcore architecture work, but it's still fun :)

The commute really sucks though. I wake up at 6:30 (3:30 in Vancouver/Hillary time), leave the house at 7:30... commute for an hour and a half... work from 9-6, commute for another hour and a half back... that's a 7:30-7:30 day, with 3 hours spent on commuting... 3 hours... that's 1/3 of my work hours...

And... guess what :) Hillary's sitting beside me right now. She starts work next week... and our anniversary is this weekend. She flew over to Toronto to spend a few days with me :)

We're planning a trip to Disneyland at the end of this term... no better place to meet after three months of separation than Disney, am I right? I've also never been before :p She wanted to take me.

SO... you're pretty much caught up with my life. I'll try to post more, but it'll be difficult. I'm finding it hard to edit photos everyday now... I get home at around 7:30, eat dinner, shower, and it's already 8:30... spend a few hours with Hillary and it's 10... then I gotta get ready for bed!

Anyway :) Gotta shower... hope you all are doing well :)

Oh.. looks like I started a new page.... if you're interested, the last three posts on the last page are from me :)

That's very true Rob! He sat there updating you guys while I read a book so it was ok :) it's still nice sitting beside him even when he's not paying attention to me. I'm sitting in a Starbucks now near Pat's office but my laptop is gonna die very soon... so i'll leave you with my side of our Days Apart set, I'll post some photos up later when I find a plug in Chapters xD got downtown too early and it wasn't open yet!

Found a plug and a comfy chair! just browsed back a few pages and I hate to just repeat Pat but... this thread really does have some of the best photography I've seen on the web and the nicest people too :) I wish I had taken the time to post and keep up with this thread, it would've been a very supportive community to be a part of during such a trying term.

So since Patrick has already updated on what's happened during this past term, I'll just continue with my winter break :) basically spent a lot of time with family... lots of extended family meals! it's been really rough dealing with my parents though... i dropped out of contact with them during the school term and it's been hard trying to patch up my relationship with them. i became somewhat depressed during the school term and my dad couldn't understand what it's like to not want to wake up in the morning... nothing was going well and it became hard to find reasons to try anymore because even if i did, i knew it wouldn't turn out well. but despite our arguments and fights, all the photos i've taken this break reflect the kind of family relations we used to have, warm and familiar. which i guess is something i'll aim to maintain for the next three months :)
