Got a Zeiss ZM 21 C Biogon for my film M's...but decided to try it on the NEX-5N. Color shift is there slightly, but not too bad. It does vignette quite heavily though

I like the B/W version better.....

    Ryan,
I'm not a fan of color shift. My eye is drawn right to the corners and not to the subject. The black and white version works much better for me. I like the vignette. Have you tried Cornerfix? http://sourceforge.net/projects/cornerfix/ I used it with success with the Zeiss 25 and NEX5.
I like the black and white of the log a lot.

THanks for your kind words, Cindy, and great images yourself! I hope that you are doing well! Great to see your wonderful pics again. We were chatting about how nice you were at our monthly Seattle Leica Users Group (SLUGs) meeting.

Ryan, I too am distracted by the color shift on the Nex using the 21. I am glad to be seeing this, as I had considered a 21 zeiss as a compact wide, but planned on getting the 21 super elmar, whenever it becomes available....

Just got my ZM C-Sonnar... A little tough to get focus, even through a live-view NEX5.

    love that glow...

    Thanks Cindy, Matt, Ashwin.

Matt/Ashwin - very nice shots with the GXR/NEX-5N. Did you by chance get to do a comparison between the two? Would be very interesting I'm sure. I wish I had local groups like this to attend....looks like fun

That being said, I have been on a huge film kick recently and after I bought the NEX-5N just decided that for the little I have been shooting with digital lately the NEX-5N is a great option at 1/6th the price. While its not M9 image quality, in my eyes it makes the M8 obsolete if looking at just image quality. Of course, a totally different system, but thats what I have film M's for. As soon as I get bored with film I will be back with a digital M...whether that be M9/M9.2/M10 . I would like to say it was purely financial....but I spent all the money on glass
interesting - I am actually thinking of doing the same. Love the M9 for its IQ but having just returned from a vacation where I used it I am getting slightly tired of it - too much effort to take pictures of the kids without AF, missed too many moments before it woke up from sleep, always worried on the beach that I have Eur 15k of equipment sitting in my bag, always afraid to leave it in the hotel for the same reason, always concerned about sand getting in my bag, my wife couldn't really use it and hated the RF focusing, external VF with the 24mm lens.... I haven't sold it yet but I am seriously considering - perhaps I will use (some of) the lenses on a NEX7 for a while until the M10 comes out, then decide what next, or just switch to the NEX7 completely, with the Sony/Zeiss glass and use my MF system when I need the IQ...and free some cash for the ongoing house refurb.....decisions, decisions...

Matt, The battle was "somewhere in Missouri, 1861". I enjoyed your library.
Ashwin, The zen garden shot is beautiful.
BrianS, Nice photo with the very capable Elmar.

Cindy: Thanks! The shots in the library were a self-indulgent exploration of ISO capability. Probably didn't need to post them. I'm extremely impressed with performance at ISO 3200.

Matt, I'm interested in the capability of the 5N since I have the NEX7 on order.

Cindy: I'm very pleased with the capabilities of the 5N. I have Nex 7's on order at two different places (we'll see who gets them first?). I've got the new Sony EVF, also, and it's pretty incredible. Based on what I've read, the NEX 5N and 7 are sort of 'apples and oranges. The 5N is supposed to have better low light capability (but how much do you need?); 5N's smaller, but requires the EVF to make it more RF-like; different sensors; etc. I'll keep shooting with it and posting here and in the Sony forum (if it's not an m lens). So far, my only complaint is the location of the 'movie record' button - I keep turning it on. One nice thing about the 5N (besides it's $) is that it's available now. Everything that you get for it (adapters, lenses, etc.) will be useable on the 7. The real judgment will be if I keep it after I've had the 7 for a while.

A couple more with the 5N and Leica Nocti combination. Odd proportions, but, pretty easy to handle. Thanks for looking.

    1. Sony NEX 5N; Leica Noctilux 50mm f/.95; 1/80s @ f/.95; ISO 1600

    2. Sony NEX 5N; Leica Noctilux 50mm f/.95; 1/80s @ f/.95; ISO 800

A few with the 5N + 50/2. Pretty happy with this combo. Not quite the Pentax 645D, but certainly a higher keep-rate. I prefer these in raw over 5d2 because of that horrible banding in the shadows. Roughly on par with 1d4, especially at higher ISOs.

Not sure why people don't like the ergo/handling of this camera. In MF it feels about as faster as anything I've used for the types of shooting I do. Granted, I am often down low on the ground and I'm always shooting handheld.

This image is made with the uncoated 9cm F4 Elmar, 1930s vintage. Screwmount. I also have a collapsible 9cm F4 Elmar, circa 1954- coated. It is sharper, higher contrast.

Nebster: Great images. I like the color, patterns, and texture in these compositions. You have a good eye for design.

I'm more then OK with the "ergo/handling" of the 5N. I've got the Sony 1/2 case and it makes it feel a little more "secure" in my hand (especially with a Nocti on it!). MF works exceptionally well!

What is it... about 7% the cost of Pentax 645D?

Thanks Matt. Much appreciated. I absolutely love the 35mm Summilux on the G3 -- but having said that I also am on the wait list for a Summilux 25 -- and my new thought is a Nex-7 w/M adapter as a backup for the M9. But I still like the traditional M rangefinder best. I still have a hard time with the EVF and composing on a screen is for me not fun.

I maintain and contend that the Ricoh GXR is no slouch, despite is 1 MP EVF....Truth be told, I adore the images coming from this lens/sensor combo. All shots here with either the 135 APO-Telyt (eff 200 mm) and the Zeiss Sonnar 50 mm f/1.5 (eff 75 mm)

Ashwin: These are great! Definitely, "no slouch" in the right hands. Color and IQ's excellent. You went to the game and you weren't even working. Any odd looks from the 'big gear' photogs?

Ashwin - unreal shots with the GXR! What a combo. Is it easier focusing the 135 on the GXR opposed to the M9?

Matt - nice shots. The 90 Summarit works great on the NEX-5N. I am using it more on the NEX than I did on the M9

    Thanks, Ryan, Matt and Steve!

Ryan, I do feel that the 135 is easier to use (for me) on the GXR, due to not having to deal with a very small focus patch area....the 135 is really a joy to use on the GXR...one of my "go to" lenses for that system! Thanks again!

Lots of great shots here, inspiring me to get a GXR-M as well. My first few with the 35mm f3.5 Perar.

Nice pictures, Retow. Are these jpegs directly from the camera? I have this lens too and find the colors very vibrant.

Keith, I shot raw&normal size jpegs set to "vivid". The posted ones are jpegs, with simple conversions into b&w in iphoto. The colors with the Perar are vibrant indeed. Love this lens on the GXR, more so than on the M9.

Jono: Great! Actually this one is my favorite. I like the tension and imbalance.

These were with the Sony NEX 5N and a Leica 50mm f/1.4. I think it was the Summilux because the The first photo was 1/4000s at ISO 100 and it has some tele compression

    Imbalance! it's my speciality
    . . . . and that's a nice balanced bum in your last shot

Here are a couple with the NEX 5n and the 35 Summarit with the Hawks helicoid adaptor for close focus (apologies for duplicate posting).

Jono: Thanks! Cool photos. Also, thanks for the link. I don't think that the right adapter is listed? Enjoying your photos, though.

    Cheers, Matt
