The new Leica M8.2 is the important development of the Leica digital tyskproduserte
rammesøkerkamera for professional photographers. Key benefits that M8
discreet, intuitive use and robustness is further enhanced. The new model
hold on the important characteristics of Leica reportasjekamera as compact
shape and exceptional image quality with the Leica M lenses, as well as the unique
bildekomposisjonen with Leica rangefinder, which show that it is a genuine M -
camera.

Leica M8.2 has been given a new extra-quiet and vibrasjonsdempet metallbladlukker that
allows the photographer to determine the appropriate moment to buckle lukkeren.
This brings the digital Leica M8.2 very close to the famous lukkeren to its
analog søstere. As a response to inquiries from professional photographers have the
new model received a more discreet appearance in which Leica logo, and has blitsskoen
received the same color as the camera. The black model has been given an extra durable
dypsvart surface.

The new snapshot mode will appeal to anyone who wants to have good results without
could be a great deal about photography. When lukkerhjulet rests on the new "S" setting,
the camera automatically controls all nøkkelinnstillinger, such as auto -
exposure (diaphragm preset), automatic ISO setting and automatically hvitballanse.
For the three most common motifs, gives Leica M8.2 proposal to blenderåpning and
fokuseringsavstand, this is displayed on your monitor when the "INFO" button presses.
Photographer can get more information on hurtiginstrukskortet that is waterproof and
brettes to credit card size.

The automatic ISO setting can be selected in all operasjonsmoder in Leica M8.2.
A new feature is Override of settings: When the release button is pressed down
the first trykkpunkt, the corrections the + / - 3 blendere in 1 / 3 step is done on
the wheel behind the camera. The setting appears in the applicant. Further modifications
includes a clearer hovedbryter to prevent unwanted activation of
selvutløseren and the framework of the applicant shows the picture more accurate in the long distances.

Part II:

The new Leica M8.2 is the very first professional digital camera that takes advantage of
ripefritt safirglass on your monitor. It is so hard that it can only be worked on with
especially diamantverktøy. Kamerahuset has been given a new moves made by robust
"Vulcanite" material that makes it comfortable to hold.

A new compact charger is designed to take the least amount of space and charges the lithium ion
the battery up to 80% within 90 minutes. It is enough for 400 exposures,
while the capacity allows 500 photos.

Leica M8.2 has inherited the extraordinary picture quality from the Leica M8. One result of
the combination between the legendary M-lenses and a CCD chip that is
especially designed for the Leica M-system and high-quality bildeproduksjon. The new
Capture One 4 raw data converted from the Danish manufacturer Phase One will ensure that
you get the best image quality in the DNG mature. In contrast to other
digital cameras, the Leica M8.2 use almost all the objectives of the Leica M-series
that have been produced since 1954 because of the high quality.

Like his predecessor will continue Leica M8.2 to be easy to use, concentrated on the
essential, few controls and a logical, easy-to-follow menu.

Leica M8 was launched in autumn 2006 and will still be on sale as an alternative
the Leica M8.2. Many of the items in M8.2 can be integrated in Leica M8: lukkeren,
safirglasset or the new framework of the applicant can be built into the Customer Service.

Leica M8.2 is leveringsklar and is available in the following Leica Spesialistbutikker:
Japan Photo AS in the departments Bergen / Oslo / Sandnes / Trondheim, Fotovideo AS in Oslo,
Interfoto AS at Høvik, Stavanger Photo AS in Stavanger and FotoStilo AS at Gurgaon.

The suggested retail price: U.S. $. 42,980, - ink. VAT.

Sensor. Compared with other types of sensors provide CCD technology less bildestøy
and is therefore selected as the bildesensor to Leica M8.2. With 10.3 million pixels are
it fully optimized for the special characteristics of Leica M lenses "
and offers the extremely high resolution needed for the best
image quality.

The special presentation of a rammesøkerkamera without speilhuset, allows the
typical, compact and flat shape to the Leica M, but it means that the light at the same time
hits the sensor with a more oblique angle. Comprehensive measures have been taken for that
Leica image quality that is contingent are achieved. With the special
the modification of bildesensoren with mikrolinser avoid man in vignettering
corners. A very thin coverplate on the basin than 0.5 mm prevent unwanted encounters of
when the light rays hitting with a tilted angle. Leica has deliberately omitted a
Moirè filter, which filters out fine details in the picture, so that one can get exploited
the high resolution to the Leica M lenses. The Moirè fringe that had to appear
up will be immediately eliminated by the camera's signal processor. The result is high
contrast, and additional high-resolution with the natural color from corner to corner.

Part III:

"Leica M8.2 using a velprøvet CCD bildesensor with 18x27mm registration
flat, "says Stephan Daniel, Product Manager for the M system at Leica Camera AG. "
small focal length factor of 1.33 ensures the creative freedom even in digital M
photography by using selective bildeskarphet on open diaphragm. "Factors in
1.33 means that the equivalent focal length of the lens is pushed a step
against tele focal length. A 21mm will therefore be equal to a 28mm.

The lens. Leica M8 can be used with almost all the M lenses that have been
produced since 1954. The high system compatibility is maintained in spite of
the transition from film to digital technology. While new customers beginning with M8
M8.2 or can take advantage of the fact that the value of Leica products remains high. The
high mechanical and optical precision and an exceptional picture quality to the
current products means that the Leica M lenses are particularly well suited to
digital photography. The criteria that individual "coating" of been the lens element
is a standard and do not have to order special measures for "digital
lenses. "

Searching. Leica søkersystem separation M8.2 and Leica M8 from normal
SLR Cameras and Compact on the market. It makes the camera to a
spesialistverktøy for the report and the existing light photography, and to
discrete portrettering. Photographer will be involved in the process and use the applicant to
to frame what he should catch - a scene, a mood, a moment. He can see
what is going on outside of the applicant. "It means he can predict the critical moment
and register it in the right moment. The result is authentic images,
'll keep any photographer's presence.

Photographer can see the subject during the visibility and the clear and kontrastrike
the applicant allows quick and precise focus, even in difficult lighting conditions.
Along with a brief lukkerforsinkelse - on digital as well as with the film - make
Leica M cameras to the fastest in the world.

In contrast to a reflekssystem, where the photographer must focus through the lens
and the focal length determines the brightness and the accuracy with distance, so
is målebasen for a Leica M constant and independent of the lens. This means that
the focus is many times more accurate on short brennvidder. That
høykontrastfylte between in the middle of the applicant to ensure quick and precise focus
even in very poor light. Rammevelgeren allows the photographer to simulate the effect of
brennvidder other without having to switch lenses. The six different framework will
always show the correct part IOM that the applicant is automatically in parallaksekorrigert
relation to the distance to the subject. All the relevant information that affects a
prefekt results appear in the applicant - ideal for the spontaneous, discrete photography.

Close. The electronically controlled metallblad lukkeren to Leica M8.2 permit
exposures down to 1 / 4000 sec. Even in bright surroundings can keep the photographer
their creative freedom to be able to take pictures of the full opening. The high
blitssynkroniseringstiden at 1 / 180 sec permit the use of utfyllingsblits and
selective focus.

Intuitive operering. Leica M8 models directed attention to the photographer
the image, not opereringen of the camera. As a result, the creative aspects
diaphragm, lukkertid and fokusplanet, which is a strong effect on the outcome of the picture,
put to the fore. Large thoughtful, many years of experience and thorough knowledge
about how professional photographers work have contributed to the development of the Leica
M8's digital features. By concentrating on the essential simple, clear and
intuitive user's control and complex menus conscious
omitted.

Nøkkelkontrollene to operate the digital features are retningsmenyen and
dreiskiven which together allow quick navigation. Press the "Set" button and
eksponeringsparameternes menu will open on the 2.5 "monitor. This is the key
the settings are fast: the sensor sensitivity, exposure compensation, white
balance, data compression and resolution. Three free positions are available for
much used, and the applikasjonsspesifikke combinations.

Part IV:
Presses Menu is a clear menu will be the basis for velging settings,
such as ECI RGB, Adobe RGB and sRGB variations. Here, the photographer can decide if
photos will be displayed on the large monitor as soon as they are taken, how long they
to appear and whether he wants to see the histogram at the same time.

Leica M8 has selvutløser with hhv two or twelve seconds delay.

The remaining capacity of SD card and its rechargeable lithium ion battery appears
all the time at the top of the camera on the left side.

Innovative flash technology. Leica M8 models using M-TTL flash technology. That
unique about this is that immediately before hovedblitsen guys so sent a
kalibreringsblink. TTL meter sign that reflected the light and decide
exactly how strong hovedblinket should be. The real beauty of the add-in blitslys
addition to the existing light will blitsbildene to look like they have been made in
natural light.

With "Auto Slow Sync" feature can diaphragm pre-mature used together with
flash. It provides a balanced background of the image, even if the intensity of the
existing light changes. In order to get the proper exposure, make a corresponding
utmålt utfyllingsblits used. Depending on the desired effect or experience,
different maximum exposure times tuned to the diaphragm pre-mature.
These can be set manually, or if coded lenses are used, automatically,
after the thumb rule "1/brennvidden = exposure time in seconds".

Check the results with the tonale values on the histogram. As a
professional digital camera, the Leica M8 models an RGB value tonalt
histogram. It may also be taken up at any time to check the quality of the
lagrete images and can be combined with automatic display of images. Another
useful purpose is to identify the overeksponerte part of the picture. These two
the controls are updated continuously when a zoom in on parts of the image on the LCD
the screen, so that one can have considered the finest details in the picture. All relevant
photographic image parameter settings in the menu and other "meta-information"
stored with the picture and can be viewed by pressing the Info button. This allows a
complete evaluation of the picture as soon as it is taken.

The use of raw data in DNG format with the use of Capture One 4 software. Capture
One 4 professional raw data converter ensures that the raw data that the levees of the CCD
the sensor and stored in the framtidssikre Adobe Digital Negative (DNG) format
is designed to ensure the best possible quality. Leica will work with the
the Danish software company Phase One to create the best kameraprofilene and
necessary software modifications. The result is kvalitetsoptimale
algorithms for color framkalling with exceptionally low noise and an incredible
resolution. The development of the finest tonale verdisteg from 16-bit images delivered
from the CCD sensor can be compared with the quality we have in a professional
combination of film and a spesiallaboratorium for framkalling. The logical
functions to adjust the quality and ready brukersnitt allows a quick
master the use of Capture One 4 to producing outstanding images.

Materials, computers and dimensions. The robust top and bunnplaten is maskinert
out of a solid messingblokk with the help of modern technology utfresings.
Kamerahuset is made from a very stable magnesiumslegering and will endure
professional use over many years. The rechargeable battery and SD are kortrommet
well-protected against dust and humidity of bunnplaten. Låsemekanismen prevent
effective against unwanted opening of bunnlokket that can lead to loss of battery and SD
short, even when the camera is used in reportage under tough conditions. This
construction, tested in decades, the Leica M system, increases the robustness of
the camera.

The target is compact 138.6 mm x 80.2 mm x 36.9mm, Leica M8 models are only a few
millimetres larger than the ideal size of the M models for the film. In addition to a few
differences with the controls, such as lack of a framtrekksarm and
tilbakespolingsknapp, is the front of the Leica M8 and M8.2 almost entirely the same as
filmversjoner. The camera discreet appearance is especially appreciated by many customers
and its timeless elegance can be found once again on Leica M8.2.

Sammensettingen and the adjustment of the camera, along with a careful inspection of all
mechanical and electronic details are precision craftsmanship at the Leica factory in
Solmar. Leica Customer service has maintained and repaired cameras over decades and
thus added a platform for long life and value. All M cameras that are
produced since 1954 will be repaired and maintained in the day.

Sensor cleaning. Leica M8 models have a special function for manual cleaning
Image sensor: when the corresponding option in the menu is selected and trigger
pressed down, open lukkeren for cleaning. The flat profile of Leica M
cameras will allow the sensor will be more visible than on a digital SLR, where
the sensor is only available behind speilhuset.

Thanks Terry. This certainly sounds legitimate and quite likely based on Leica's previous patterns. It is a bit of a let down that they have not figured out how to do full frame or no IR filters yet, but at least they are doing something. It looks like they are learning from their customers -- quieter shutter, smaller charger, vulcanite instead of the slippery-anite that is on it and the MP, sdhc support, 16bit dng...but fundamentally, as an imaging system it is the same as the M8. Same sensor, same ISO performance, same IR filter requirements, same crop factor. For me, this is the deal breaker -- no point in upgrading for a few nicer features when the camera's results are identical. If I were to be buying new now, however, the new one would probably be worth the premium. 42000 dollars sounds like a lot, though, even for Leica! Kidding, 42000 kronur sounds more likely--that is about 7700, but includes Norway's VAT of 24%. That means 5800 or so in USD, but it is likely to be cheaper in the US than in Norway (even if you include the VAT). Chances are they will price it at 5000 again, and the M8.1 will undergo a price cut to 4000 or something.

Does look like they have fixed the IR problem. From Terry's next to last post-

"...Coverglass thickness 0.5 mm, complete suppression
of infrared light by additional UV / IR filter. Moiré filter: no, ..."

The 42,980 is not USD...it's in Norwegian Kroners. Should be around $7700 USD...if you can believe this thing at all!!

I think it is accurate and the $7500 arena sounds about right for Leica.

I am also pretty sure Simon has read it correctly, you still need the external IR/UV filter to fully suppress IR...

SDHC is partially hardware, as is any SD over 2G --- probably why the original will never get larger via firmware. I suspect *some* of the early readers they bought for the early bodies were limited to 2G...

So basically, you are getting the newer shutter, the coated LCD cover-glass, a basic auto ISO and SDHC. Frankly, does not seem like very much incentive over a used M8.1 for less than half the price... Heck, it may even drive used M8 prices up!

Cheers,
