I would have expected an announcement of their all singing all dancing mirrorless EVF camera way before the M10.

But there again, WTF do I know

I did not know that the M10 would be without an EVF.

may not will. And it's very unlikely. After the success of the M9 why would they do that?

As an option perhaps, but an M9 replacement, no way.

If this is true, I will get one. Now, I really have to pay attention what transpires on the 10th.

    Thanks for the news Ario!

Leica Rumors is also reporting that the black and white-only camera has no LCD, so I don't know how much credence I lend to the rumor. Such a camera could, like Russell's Teapot, exist, but I doubt it, and I doubt even more that it would be the M10.

    edit:
But a lot of people are clamoring for a camera without an LCD screen, so who knows?

Such a camera would be the best for me. I will be all over it if it is all of the above + interchangeable.

I'd be surprised to see this camera at all, but if Leica does release a camera with no LCD and no color capability, I suspect it would be a special production (i.e. M9BW/M9SW) or a new line, not a standalone M.

But we've got months to speculate.

    Re: M10 to be Announced?

Maybe Leica will make batteryless digital rangefinder? I wonder if a film wind lever could generate enough power to power the camera?

B&W only? I doubt it, and I would not buy it. I like color! Go M10!

P.S. I might pick up an "obsolete" M9 soon. Prices are already going down...

Eliminate the self-capping shutter too! ASA 12 and 36 exposures per flash card should be plenty for anyone.

    Re: M10 to be Announced?

I dont believe that a b&W digital M would be the successor to the M9.
If there would be a b&w camera than I would imageine that it is an additional camera.
I am sure there is a demand for b&w cameras, but I also would guess most people want to be able to do both b&w and color (like me).

But then if it is a b&w only sensor this could mean to get something like medium format resolution in a small m body. Amazing, isnt it?

I will just wait and see, and in the end I will probably WANT it whatever it turns out to be

Hey, whatever Leica is announcing, it will probably not be available for documenting my summer travels. Maybe I should pick up something from Japanese vendors? Oh wait, I already have a GXR-M system

There is always another year. And with the speed Leica has been making their gear, it will probably be next year till it is available.

    Re: M10 to be Announced?

    Sounds like Leica.

So in order to offer a cheaper and more affordable camera, they will now do away with a LCD screen and offer a B&W sensor only. I guess if they offer an even lower line of cameras, how about foregoing the shutter release and viewfinder altogether!

    Re: M10 to be Announced?

Does anybody seriously think Leica have exhausted the number of M9, M9-P and specials editions yet? The need to milk the cow, not introduce an M10. So a black and white body with no LCD, special black paint that rubs off easily, and at a premium price over an M9-P, it all fits the modus opernadi.

The date of the '10th' is a total coincidence and it is the announcement of the EVIL camera, a camera that Leica desperately need to release soon if they aren't going to be left further behind.

    Re: M10 to be Announced?

I think if Leica did come out with B&W sensor based camera at a lower price point and had an enhanced upgrade path for both the new camera and the M9 to address market trends and tech innovations- that would be something. No need for an M10. Ever. As well, Leica would then become the first digital camera company that makes digital cameras that never become obsolete. Pretty responsible marketing if you ask me...The original M8 plan if I'm correct.

    But Why?
If they're already constrained with deliveries, especially for M lenses - why on earth would they produce something with necessarily less profit, which would increase demand for something they can't produce fast enough (M lenses).

You address the smaller wallet when you've got all you can out of the bigger wallet!

IIRC a Leica big shot mentioned in an interview last year that they're indeed bringing a camera line below M series, something that can use M lenses (with or without an adapter?).

Lets hope that it is not a re-badged Lumix DMC-GX-1.

    +1 for a B&W version of the M9.

The answer really to that question is have they moved into the new facilities yet and I am kicking myself since I can't remember the name of the town and I stayed there for several days.
