Yes, the heavystar shade could, I assume, be ground down - I don't recall exactly, but I don't think that was a vented hood, but rather a solid shade. Since DAG is a machinist he was able to grind down the front edge of the shade perfectly in alignment, and also to a 55mm diameter so it would accept a snap-on cap, which he also provided at no additional charge. The only drawback is with the screw in shade I cannot also use, for example, a 39mm screw-in filter at the same time.
