They have to wait to maximize the BS factor and allow for more cute leaks.

I read that they'll announce at noon Eastern Time.

    Re: So? 5/10? no announcements?

Just looked up the announcements. They're about what I expected.

    - M9-M ... nice but not for me. I'll stick with my M9.

    - Summicron 50 APO ... gorgeous. out of my price range for a 50mm lens; i'm very happy with the Nokton 50mm f/1.5 (LTM) at one-tenth the price.

    - X2 ... ok, now i might have to have one. Adding an EVF was the only thing missing far as I'm concerned. After Jan 1, 2013 ... I've already spent my photo budget for 2012. That will give me time to think about it.

I see no point to complaining about the prices. If you want Leica gear, you pay Leica prices. If you won't pay Leica prices, don't consider Leica gear. End of story.

    Re: So? 5/10? no announcements?

M9-M is actually interesting. I think they put a 7 in the price of the new 50 Summicron where a 3 goes. I can live without the X2. Looking forward to Photokina 2012 and the M10 before any definitive decisions are made. I'm curious to see if there will be a M9-M upgrade program as well.

In my case, definitely want that M9M and might even manage to buy one. It really is exciting despite the fact that it is a monochrome sensor with the files processed like a regular M9 file.

Would love to use that AA 50/2. Unlikely to get near one ever.

X2- CMOS 16MP, sounds like Sony's 16MP gets around a lot. Should be a lovely camera.

I already have a dirt cheap NEX-C3 and would buy a NEX-F3 and an EVF. It is not just cost considerations but I dig interchangeable lens system cameras.

Seascape, you could shoot a lot of B+W rolls for the price of a M9M! and I fear the M6 will outlast any digital M body ( fear for me owning a M8 , not your M6!)

Hey I own an M8 as well

After today's announcements, I think I can save a lot of money doing very acceptable B&W images on the M8.

To give the look of various B&W films. Why else!! Isn't it wonderful.

p.s i am still unsure about the sRGB space. Why? To convert to color, or is it because Nik cannot work on monochrome images? I am
    curious.

Cant I just save 7700 bucks and buy Silver efex pro 2 for my M8 though?

or buy a M9 and shoot in both? I dont understand the allure of a B+W sensor.

As I posted in another thread (or is it here?), the output is not truly monochromatic just so that the Nik filters can be used. This is one of the reasons. The other one is a clever one that benefits the potential buyer, cost wise! If it had been a true monochromatic output, the price would have been >2X (not including the Leica premium!) for the same reasons an Achromatic+ back is so expensive. Such sensors would need extraordinary QC and many have to be rejected before the actual one has to be chosen.

So, in fact, Leica appear to have made an affordable monochrome camera. It is quite clever on their part.
