Jono: You have noticed, as evidenced by your pics, that the 80-200/4 focuses very close (down to around 4 ft)...and, as a result, two of my favorite R lenses (135 and 180/4) have gone into the drawer...they only focus down to around 5 ft! Enjoy the 80-200!

    Hi Roy
Yes indeed, the close focusing was the final nail in the rather flimsy coffin of my resistance!
The thing is that it seems to be pretty much as sharp as the primes as well (but a bit bigger!).

    all the best

Re: Fun with M & R Lenses on anything other then a Leica

I fixed the WB on my recent day's pictures - funny how I didn't even notice when going over them that they all had a bluish cast due to a funny WB set (while making a cornerfix profile). Anyway, the link changed to my middle picture above and I can't edit the post, so here it is again:

    Hi there Roy,

I like in particular that cactus shot, fascinating play of light and shadow.
Nice compositions with the plants and flowers against that fence.

    And that's quite a lens, hey ?!

    All the best.

+1 it's fantastic Roy . . . . there's one of those lenses at Red Dot as well, but I'm going to restrain myself!

Thanks, Jono. Lens is worth every pfennig, Jono...brilliant rendering of color, fine detail.

Some eye-catchers with the 80-200/4 Vario-Elmar-R...the monsoons have been with us for the past few days in South Florida...mornings have been gloomy, windy, dark and wet. Wide open at f/4 does not make for critical focusing in the gloom, hand-held, so these will, no doubt, not find viewing space in the Louvre...but they may catch your eye.

Wonderful Dan! Interesting how great the colors are from such old Leitz lenses, I've noticed the same thing from my 135 Elmar. I should try it out some more w/ extension tubes.

Thanks Matt! I noticed the gull flying right over my head and had an impulse to get a BIF shot of it then remembered that I had the 21 on my camera! When it landed on the pole I thought, well, I'll take a picture anyway. It's not often we get a completely cloud-free day in Seattle where you can make a picture like this

I can't remember why I decided to go B&W with it. The original is OK but I do like this better.

135/2.8 Elmarit-R on Canon: very under-rated thus quite a bit cheaper.

Here are a few from today with the Nex-7 and CV 35/1.2 II. Most of my shots today were made with that lens's "big" brother - the 180/4 apo-lanthar in AI-S mount. A lens which is actually only slightly larger than the 35.

From last weekend, Nex-7 and 21 Super-Elmar. Accidentally left the camera in S mode so the shutter speed is high, and the ISO as well.

Also, first time using LR4, so I let it correct the distortion - which was fairly useful for a picture like the second one, even though this lens has fairly low geometrical distortion.
