Agree with everyone, that the picture of you Lloyd, with your sister and Mom is simply priceless! There are sometimes those images that transcend both equipment and time and freeze the moment, to be remembered forever.

Graham is right. Many of us have old pictures and 8 & super 8mm movies just lying around somewheres in draws or attics, just begging to sorts, saved and kept for future generations of our families. I am as guilty as anyone in not finding the time to do this before mother nature takes a complete toll on them....whereby they simply will deteriorate beyond a reasonable ability to recover.

Wow, I must have missed Ashwin's posting of Getdpi members he's photographed...all great shots!

As for the one directly above...I'm trying to make out exactly what Ashwin is doing? My four guesses are:

    1. This is how he looks when comparing his exotic lenses on the MM...simply closes his eyes and attempts to focus and shoot "eyes closed" and then post the shots for us to compare the OOF areas and image characteristics...OR

    2. He simply falls asleep at random times. It's hard spending 23 hrs a day keeping up with each lens shot at each aperture on each M mount body...OR

    3. He's trying out for a bit part in an uncoming movie, looking to play the tough guy by simply saying "hand over that lens or else"! ....OR

    4. He makes believe he's alseep (see that one eye slightly open?) and when you're not looking, takes one of his famous people portraits on his unsuspecting victims. Thats probably how he gets some of the most delightful candids he's been posting recently here and elsewhere. I opt for #4!

#4 sounds very plausible although actually I believe that his eyes are spinning around behind the eyelids like a slot machine and when he opens them there's a kaching sound and they show which lens to mount and try next on his monochrom.

This remains a wonderfully entertaining thread. Such characters hereabouts!

Reviewing photos from a recent walk, I found a little corner of one exposure with a fun double-reflection self-portrait in it... Cropped the heck out of it and made this. It's about 1/6 or less of the total image captured.

Nice ones Ashwin. Hmmm, hood a little beat up...wear on it's edges, smooth bokeh...must be a older classic lens you're trying out? Which one?

Thanks Ashwin! Very smooth, creamy bokeh from what I can tell. I've had a chance to purchase a Canon 85mm f1.8 a few times, but I passed. Maybe I should reconsider for the next time.

    Thanks everyone.
Edward: I should have Zeiss 25mm soon from Germany. Thanks for the information.
Ashwin: that picture was taken by my wife and she should be very glad to hear that a member of this forum likes it.

I just revisited this thread after about a month, and my laughter could be heard far and wide! What a fun thread! Especially appreciated the "Hulk shots" and "The Many Faces of Ash."

Here's one from New Year's Eve, with me, my better half, and a menorah featuring a "bolt guy" band. Our host is a cellist.

Peter, your wife has that "boys will be boys" expression that we're all so used to!

emr: Yes, she does, doesn't she! I sometimes call her the Minister of Culture because she's Russian-born and censors my photos of her. But she also says I take better pictures of her than anyone ever has, and she lets me buy the gear I want, so I can't complain *too* much... :-)
