Putting Faces to Names - (i.e. the Selfie thread)

Over the years, I have had the great pleasure to meet and befriend many GetDPI members. Actually, it's truly been an honor to turn virtual relationships into real ones in the real world. That being said, I have greatly valued the many online friendships that I have developed with you here. In many instances, we have shared images of ourselves, but in most cases, we are behind the RF rather than in front....

SO in the spirit of gettin' to know ya better, I figured that we could share our mugshots, portraits, selfies, what have you....

Any bites? I'll start it off, and great to see you in advance!

Re: Putting Faces to Names :toocool:

I'll have to search around for something with any artistic merit, but the only thing that I have handy is my avatar blown up. Ugh, I never planned on showing it larger than avatar size, so I probably should have retouched it or something.

I get a hair cut once a year, so besides the long haired version in my avatar pic, I have this summer version

Maybe it's premature to put a face to the name since you all scarcely know my name...

Taken by Jamie with her V-Lux 40. She has become addicted to its 24-480mm zoom and is willing to put up with the jpeg artifacts.

    Nice to meet you all.

Douglas, many people know me as wentbackward! But Paul is fine too. Nice to meet you and thanks for the complement!

Erik your daughter needs to face up to it and give up the cell phone.

Hosermage, I wanted to ask, who is Nadia, then I realised it must be Aidan!! hehe

Gilpen, is there an active Leica community in PH? I travel down to Clark once or twice a month.

Good catch, Paul. We sort of planned to name our daughter just that, if she ever come, but we chickened out, not on the name, but on the idea of having another kid

As far as recognition goes, David Farkas recognised me in Berlin based on this photo - do you need to know more?

just pontificating as always! It was taken by a flat mate (Guy Buncombe) in about 1972. I was amazed that David recognised me from it 40years later, maybe I still needed a haircut, and certainly I was still pontificating. I can easily provide a more up to date image, but generally speaking young people are more attractive, and who really cares what I look like

Re: Putting Faces to Names - (i.e. the Selfie thread)

I know many people when planning and conceiving a selfie wish to make the image an extend a dialog of the attributes of our souls that would otherwise be precluded by our own foibles and body language, perhaps due to being guided by many years of fitting to a society that we were part of only by happenchance. Selfies break through the psychological, to look deeper than belies, an often, somewhat gayer and more casual exterior that doth behest a more fun life of vitality and variety, to a place that even the most expert photographer cannot go. The soul and body stripped bare for the viewer to contemplate, consider and hopefully see the naked truthfulness.

Frankly speaking though, I've never been one to get my clothes off in front of a camera and still struggle to get the damned thing in focus in a mirror. My selfies tend to have the same expression I use when trying to figure out the logic behind blending modes in Photoshop.

100 million BC, when Pentax 67 roamed the earth. I was fresh out of graduate school in love with MF negatives.

This one is from 1999 when we were on our honeymoon in Tuscany. One day we had a lesson at a cooking school. Yashica T4. Damn, that was a good compact film camera.

And this was last year - posing with the microphone stand I used for focusing.

I'm posting that picture so that when any of you meet me you can comment on my recent weight loss. Please remain silent on the hair.

    Best,

    Matt

Ashwin is right. I hardly have photographs of me. Since my wife and I have spent so much time in the mountains; here is one taken by her.

Chamonix. Mt. Blanc is towards you right.

My idea of a relaxing holiday.

It's too damn early morning, but at $300 a day time is wasting, the poor guy just got his first cup of coffee, his wife is playing with his new $zillion camera, and you expect a smile on Rayyan's face to boot?

Chuck, the only part that is true is that it was early morning, and yes my second cup of coffee ( the first one I had in bed..that's what a good wife is supposed to do..flame on ).

She treats my cameras with disdain bordering on extreme contempt. Except her D-Lux4!! A waste of money, she says.

    Best regards.

Selfie from last week (I'll post other work from Mustique when I get around to editing it). MM + Nocti @ f.95 + .9 ND filter.

Hmm. Reviewing this thread i detect a gender bias. Is it: women don't shoot Leicas; women don't hang out at GetDPI; women don't post selfies.

Hmmm. Good point... I know of a few women Leicaphiles, including on of our awesome mods and another prolific GetDPI'er.... As well as a few others out there, but yes, that is interesting....

Here is a recent one with my wife, Phyllis, and a lady at whose Ryoken we stayed 26 years ago with our then daughter of 10.

You can tell it is recent by the size of the overhang on Woody LOL

Yikes! I completely missed it....this thread was posted in the Leica forum. Ok, here's my revised self portrait (with the R8 and motordrive...great camera!)

I'm all Leica, all the time....except when I'm not.

Awesome pic, Jono! Here's one a little older from me, too.
