    modern M lenses feild curvature

are there any modern M lenses that really have a field curvature that gets in the way and really must be accounted for when shooting?

does the liveview on the new M solve any field curvature issues?

Does the Zeiss 50/1.5 Sonnar count as modern?

Leica seems to like the wavy kind of field curvature which produces sharp centers and corners but a slight drop in sharpness in zone B as you can see in many of the current lenses MTF as published on Leica website. Field curvature is not always bad. It helps produce 3D rendering.

LV with focus peaking certainly counters the FC effects as you can focus anywhere in the frame without changing your composition.

does live view w/ focus peaking solve the problem of focus shift also?

Yes. As long as you focus at shooting aperture.

Or at least, focus at f/2.8 when you're using a narrower f-stop to shoot. My observation is that with most f/1.4 and f/2 lenses, the major rearward focus shift happens between f/2 and f/2.8. So you can focus at f/2.8 (brighter and less DOF, so focusing is easier) and still be OK to shoot at f/4 or narrower. that's probably why Zeiss decided to optimize the rangefinder focus of the current 50/1.5 Sonnar at f/2.8--it works for the stops most people shoot at.

does LV w/ focus peaking also solve the "focus and recompose" issue too?
