Eith 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH or 35mm f/2.5 Summarit (or f/2.4 if you don't the f/2.5) and a 50mm f/2 Summicron or APO Summicron if money is no object.

Choose 28 or 35 based on which is a better FL for your point of view, and 50 because it is simply magic.

I'm planning a very similar trip to Korea in June and have the same decision to make. So far for me its 35/2.5 and 50/2.

I prefer small and light over fast, but even at f/2.5 the little 35mm Summarit has beautiful bokeh (just not much of it) and the old non-APO Summicron still does everything I could ask of it.

21 & 35 for me. Right now it's the Zeiss 21/2.8 and a Voigt 35/1.4 SC on a M2. In my "winning the lottery dream world" it would be a M-P and a 35 FLE.

28/2-50/1.4; 35/2-75/2; 35/2-50/1.4

I have been walking around with all sorts of combinations for some days now.
And with different camera combos too.

My family thinks I have gone mad...they don't think; they know.
As the travel date approaches, I have started walking faster, and without purpose.

Depends on the place; Depends what camera I have also.

With the ME, what would I do for Night streets ( yea, I know, I have read all them
bring it up in post , use a tripod etc ).

If one lens..just the 50/1.4 and **ck it all. Enjoy what comes.

Of course, I could go to sleep early:D

Nice posts
I'd like to go on a vacation if I had my choice and if had the time it would be 2 M bodies one M240 and one MM with the 21 it's killer in the city or out of and for sure the 50 you can't beat the 50 for an all around do it all lens!
Sometimes I love my 35 lux but not shooting into the light its sucks the flare in and zaps the contrast right out of the image otherwise I would say the 35 but it's too limited to be locked out of a shot because of the direction of the light!

28/50 hands down. Been there, done that and know it works. (Oh, and it would be the 28 Cron and the 50 Lux.)

PS: I added a poll for you, but our font colors are still under correction and the poll fonts definitely need to be fixed since they're the same color as the background!

PPS: Bob fixed the colors, then realized I did not set the poll up for pairs -- so yeah, I'm an idiot...

PPPS: Okay, I think my idiot pea-brain finally got this working :ROTFL:

28 on the Q, 35 on the M-P and 50 on the MM2. Sorry for 3, but I will now carry 3 bodies. This is in general, so for different venues I change up the interchangeable lenses. Guess my 28/2.8 will not get much use now. I often take 18 for landscapes and 21 for Euro villages or use the 21/1.4 for Jazz clubs/dark situations. Love the Elmarit-M 90/2.8 for longer needs. Occasionally, take either the 75/2.0 or the TEM 135/4.0.

My sweet spot seems to be the 1.4/35 and 2/75. The only annoyance I can find here his the different file size - not so much a biggie that it tempts me to replace the Summicron with a Summarit. I used to be 35/90, but not quite anymore. But then, I think one should change her or his habits from time to time to explore new views. For one I never though I'd go along well with 28 ... until the Q came along.

Revisiting this thread having now spent some time with both the new Elmar-M 24/3.8 and Summarit-M 75/2.4 ...

35/1.4 - 75/2.4 a great combination
50/1.5 - 35/1.4 my classic combination
50/1.5 - 75/2.4 ooh baby!
50/1.5 - 24/3.8 expect 80-90% of my shooting with the 50
50/1.5 - 90/4 my other classic combination
35/1.4 - 90/4 my third other classic combination

Et cetera. If I were leaving on a trip tomorrow, I'd probably grab the bag as it's sitting right now with 35/75 in it, and toss the 24 in as well for good measure. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that they're all good combinations. :)

I will soon buy a 28mm, either the Elmarit ASPH or Summicron ASPH (money permitting).

My ideal combination will be either 28/2.x and 50/2 or 35/2.5 and 50/1.5 (vintage Sonnar).

Since retiring (fully this time:eek:), I split my time between Michigan and Florida … so, I'm sort of "on vacation" all the time. My M kit is now strictly a M Monochrome v-1 and my creaky old M28/2 ASPH, 35/1.4 ASPH v-1, 75/2 and 90/2.8 last version. I also have a 21/1.4 ASPH but never use it on the M … just the Sony A camera. I sold my M50/0.95 to fund the S100/2.

A vast majority of my M images are of people, so a vast majority of shots are with the 35/1.4 and an occasional few with the 75 or 90. If I know I will be in confined quarters I may bring the 28/2 but prefer the 35 for less distortion of people. Not much interested in landscape work … natural or urban.

Frankly, when shooting with the M, I do any color snaps with my cell phone:shocked:.

Any "serious" color work is done with the S system.
