Re: Fun with the M 10

Ok, let's get this show on the road. Here's a couple of photos with M10 from this summer, shot with Noctilux 0.95 and in Spain. One of the photos is a stich of several nocti shots created with LR.

Needless to say, I was having fun with my M10

The M10 has some incredibly vivid but natural colour, some of the best in any 35mm digital camera I have seen. It's really a joy to look at.

O course the Noctilux has something to do with that to - incredible colour fidelity.

I can't speak for Basel, but Switzerland, like Israel, has mandatory military service, and the automatic rifle carrier appears to be of appropriate age to be serving.

Israeli soldiers in combat units are required to keep their weapons in their possession when home for the weekend, specifically not to leave them at their homes. And the provisions for securing a weapon at the base rather than taking it home were recently expanded. Otherwise, possession by non-soldiers is limited to a single handgun, licensed after a background and needs check, with regular training required to keep the license.

It's over 30 years since I lived and worked in Basel, and I guess things have changed a bit since then. I'm not sure I could identify the precise location: Barfüsserplatz?

Just BTW, a few years ago I was walking along a side street in a small village in the foothills of the Bernese Oberland. The little signs in the road told me that the Army was active. And then a couple of tanks came past; they stopped for the traffic at the T junction, turned left and zoomed off. I don't know what Swiss roads are made of, but the tanks didn't leave a mark. Alas, I didn't have a camera with me that day.

Barfüsserplatz ia fairly close... but it is Aeschenplatz.
I saw the young lady when she left the "Zeughaus" (Material depot" and we took the same tramway...
I Switzerland the army is a militia system with only very few professional soldiers. each active has the assault rifle at home, some years ago even a sealed tin with ammo - I think it is still the same today... being french I am not too much up to date :-)

    all the best

Re: Fun with the M 10

    Fairly close is right!

Soldiers can keep the weapon at home, but today the ammo is in the Zeughaus (the armory or arsenal).

Military service is compulsory for boys (though they can do a rather longer period of social work); military service for girls is voluntary, so the pic is rather unusual.
