Hi pegelli. Hope all goes well with you and your loved ones.
Why Leica?
And you are correct coz this is a photography forum.
But I, personally, do not use my camera in a vacuum. I wear clothes, sneakers, shoes etc. when I take my camera for an outing.
Whether I am at home or abroad, I am in an environment. In a society. It just so happens that I, and I presume, most of those on this forum live in a capitalist/consumer driven society.
As such, it is very difficult for me not to spend what I consider considerable sums of money on things which I can also buy much cheaper. Most of us use credit cards, although we realize that such spending could be detrimental. To some. But we do it either out of necessity or to buy or borrowed money. That is how the economy works, in most places. Is that bad taste?
I am glad..very glad, that Leica got themselves out of financial trouble. And hopefully, they continue to be prosperous.
If that meant opening boutique shops next to LV..more power to them. Bad taste? I don't believe so.
Just simple marketing and targeting people who buy their products.
Take care.

Because this is a photography forum, none of the other examples you mention have anything to do with photography
On a more serious note, I get what you are saying and respect that, just like I respect the opinions of the people who think this is over the top.
My position is simple, as long as there are people buying this stuff there's no reason for Leica not to produce them.
The reasons people buy them are not important for me, everybody is free to spend their money as they see fit.
I personally wouldn't spend money on these kind of items but I hope the fact I buy certain equipment (or not) does not influence how people see me.
