Autopole warning

On the assumption that there might be someone as dumb as me.
I have had three rolls of seamless hanging off a set of autopoles in my home studio since last spring.
Sometime last night there was a crashing noise as it all came down.
Damage was minor, much less than it could have been.
Seems that houses move and so do autopoles with the change in seasons and temperature.
AUTOPOLES ARE FOR TEMPORARY RIGGING.

same home set-up i have but is periodically checked for tightness and secureness. you're right- materials do expand when warm and shrink when cold.

Warning -- they can also raise the ceiling!
I recently did a setup in our library for a party.
The autopole nearest the custom built-in wall cabinets raised the ceiling a few mms and split the paint between the ceiling and crown moulding! I don't think my wife noticed..

I have also left a few subtle rings on ceilings elsewhere (despite the white cup attachment)
Any secrete here to avoid marring ceilings?

cheers,
Eric
