Just picked up an older copy of the Mamiya 80mm f1.9 lens (thanks for pointing it out Jack). I love soft focus images.. not the diffuse/smear with vaseline kind. but the images that the old Cooke portrait lenses produced. The softness and glow were a result of 'faulty' (well at least by high end razor sharp lenses) design. You can often find this on some lenses when shot wide open.
Although some may not like the bokeh of this lens (i think the word i've heard was 'clumpy'...).. i like the effect in some images.
