Re: Sinar Hy6 Camera System - Some General Views

THANK YOU very much, Thierry for all your effort with the snapshots.

I'm sure other photographers will wholeheartedly agree
the anthracite/black color for the 45 prism is much preferred
over the ugly eMotion blue color still present in the handle/grip
and face of the camera body. Lose it entirely, please.

I know you personally understand this,
but please continue to impress upon the decision-makers at Jenoptik/Sinar
how good industrial design is very important to photographers.

For example, notice how Leaf's AFi-7 digital back is scalloped to follow the lines of the camera body,
and how black/dark grey is never the wrong choice for color.

I must agree. I'd prefer the Hy6 (back included) to be all the same shade of dark grey, or black.

Thanks for posting these pics, Thierry.

    Hi Billy,

I can ASSURE you that the handle IS NOT "eMotion-blue", but anthracite, a lighter anthracite than some other parts of the body, BUT anthracite.

BTW: the Leaf AFi and the Hy6 are excatly identical concerning colours/tones of those colors.

    Best regards,
    Thierry

additional information to my previous post: the grey anthracite is the same grey (neutral grey) as the grey one can see on the side of the body, in my shot.

Me too, honestly spoken. But I like the camera as well like it is: it looks different when you have it in front of you, very homogeneous and even though I am a "black" kind of person, I can also like this.

Re: Sinar Hy6 Camera System - Some General Views

If one uses non-autofocus 6000 lenses on the Hy6, does that give focus confirmation?

Do 6000 series accessories, such as 45 degree prism viewfinders fit the Hy6?

I also would like an all black camera.

This forum is great. I'm getting a lot of information.

    Thanks so much,

Is the Hy6 smaller than the 6008 non-auto focus? It looks shorter in the vertical dimension?

yes, some accessories from the Hy6, but not the 45 finder as such: it had to be modified slightly and fits a new adapter plate.

    Thierry

PS: hope not having been too fast this time!

Billy, don't forget that I used "only" a Lumix, set to "Automatic White Balance", no neutral taken, no PP: so the colours are certainly a bit off.

it is, the Hy6 is 1/3 shorter (in the vertical), mainly due to the battery being in the grip, and not in the bottom like in the 6008. Other dimensions are about identical.

    For those who don't know,
red arrow points to AF button.

Usual practice is to set focus to manual instead of single or continuous.
Press AF button to focus [on eyes]
    Recompose
    Release shutter

    Billy,

Though it is night and using Tungsten light right now (metamerism), I have asked my daughter of 7 what she sees:

    - she sees the grey anthracite of the handle the same as the one on the upper camera (2 arrows pointing left).
    - she sees the eMotion body being of a different grey.

I did this test, because I know myself being kind of sensitive with my eyes concerning green/blue, means I have sometimes problems to distinguish these particular colours. On the other hand, I know that my daughter most probably does not "suffer" from the same: she is my adopted daughter.

Would you show whatever mask/insert Sinar includes for vertical/horizontal framing on the focusing screen, please?

    P.S. I wouldn't mind seeing Leaf's solution, either.

nomore feel like taking a snapshot this evening, Billy!

I can say that it is translucent, about 50%, grey (so BLACK if it would be a 100% ---> ), with cuts of the capture size for both V & H, which means that it shows you both crops ...

oh, i better take a snapshot! More easy than explaining:

    Wait a minute ....

    ... here it is.

Just imagine the grey part being translucent. And sorry for MY fingerprint: I hope my boss won't see it!

In this day and age, why not communicate visually. Words fail at times.
That's why I asked for a YouTube tutorial on stitching at another GetDPI thread.

    Thanks again, Thierry.
So, it's a grey acetate that sits atop the focusing screen?

I would have been happy with a good written description.
For whatever reason, you seem to think I'm demanding

Whenever you get around to it, next I'd like to see a snapshot of the battery in its charger.
I'm curious if it's a single or double charger, if it's 110/220v, and how large it is (for packing in a case).
Also, the recent firmware upgrade excluded use of Varta V290 batteries, why?

Afaik, both the camera and the back take Varta V290 batteries. These are common enough, and there are third party chargers available for around $10-20. In other words, this should not be a factor when considering this camera.

It is a fact, that Varta V290 are not longer produced, thus replaced by batteries from another manufacturer and under our own specifications. These batteries are the "Sinar V290".

    Thierry,

I do hope your "bosses" appreciate your efforts here, I know the forum members do. Since this post is directed at those who have an interest in the Sinar Hy6 let me share my recent experience with their customer service. I had some difficulty in getting the new eXposure software to work properly on both my desktop and laptop systems. I tried everything I could think of but no luck. I sent Thierry an email asking for assistance, he sent me the name of a contact at Jenoptik, I sent him an email this past Sunday evening. On Monday morning I had a response that enabled me to get both systems working perfectly. This is the kind of customer support that one should receive with the purchase of a high ticket back. Nevertheless, it is very comforting to know that one ACTUALLY gets it. Thierry, I hope you will not mind my sharing this publicly. I do not want to embarrass you with too high praises but thought others considering this system should know of your efforts.

    Thierry,
May I also see the interior of the revolving interface plate?
Wondering if it's any more difficult accessing the three screws,
now that there's a revolving mechanism & 2nd plate involved?

    Easy, here it is:

    - Red arrows show the position of the 2 rotation plates to have access to the screws: 2 precise marks on each side make sure that you can easily position it.

    - Green arrows indicate the location of the 3 screws.

Other than that it takes exactly 2 seconds longer than any other adapter to be removed/mounted (2 seconds to bring the plates in position).

Thanks David, much appreciated that you mention your "contact" at Jenoptik, Jena: he is also doing his possible to help.

Sometimes it takes a bit longer, but it is not because of lack of willingness.

I agree nevertheless that such king of support should be expected, and I'll try my best to do so.

Welcome, Billy (sorry for the bad IQ of this ISO 1600 with my desk lamp!).

Yes, there is a spacer but with a fix and same size for all backs of a certain type, e.g. eMotion 75 / 75 LV. It is placed between the adapter and the casing, in a location where it fits exactly in.

Cropped to about half - Contrast Correction and USM applied

Was a bit windy, today when I took this shot in my garden: it is a black Orchid

PS: I just noticed, after the upload, that it does not use the embedded profile. Probably using sRGB

Wow on those colors... lovely capture. Glad you got that wonderful lens while your orchids were still in bloom. Quite shallow DOF for f/8... one of the things I like so much about MF. Did you use eXposure for your conversion.

Yes the Leaf back fit's nicely on the AFi,however that's also one of the reasons
    why it can't rotate.
For that they have to totally redesign the coupling plate.

N.B I do also think it's a shame that with the e75 LV screen upgrade,
Sinar didn't match the back with the same color scheme as the Hy6.

I have heard to the grapevine that there is a new back for the Hy6 in the
    pipeline.

    Regards,
    Willem.

Cropped to about half - Contrast Correction and USM applied

Was a bit windy, today when I took this shot in my garden: it is a black Orchid

PS: I just noticed, after the upload, that it does not use the embedded profile. Probably using sRGB
Love the overall image. Colors are wonderful. But i could do without the very sharp hexagon OOF areas. Too abrupt a transition for me

N.B I do also think it's a shame that with the e75 LV screen upgrade,
Sinar didn't match the back with the same color scheme as the Hy6.

Yes, the colours of this orchid are wonderful: I wish it could apply the right profile here in the post, which seems to be a problem (Guy?).
Its DNGed with eXposure and PP in CS3 (some contrast correction and USM).

I could do without too. I wanted to try my new 110/2 with different f-stops, started at f8, but then came wind and rain, and that was it. Will try to get some more of it, but this orchid does blossom only for a few days, in contrast to most of the orchids.

Make sure you convert to SRGB in PS . BTW what browser are you using
Photography is all about experimentation and without it you will never learn art.
