    Photokina Coverage by Capture Integration

Photokina is just around the corner. With Photokina always comes tons of news. Rather than spam the board with dozens of threads I thought I would start one thread (this one) where I will post all of our coverage, opinions, and Q&A.

We encourage you to post any questions you would like answered at Photokina and we'll do our best to answer each. Dave Gallagher and I (Doug Peterson) will there in person to followup on announcements with interviews with the technical staff and management of the relevant companies. In the past one of the most frustrating parts of Photokina has been that the Press Releases and manufacturer web pages do not include some small-but-important detail which goes unanswered for days or weeks. Being there in person we hope to followup on such questions immediately.

I thought the deal was whatever announced I get first.

    can't blame me for trying.

now, this is really good news for Phase One users!
With this lens the Phase One (camera-) system is becoming really interessting... as it is certainly (hopefully) just the first TS lens...

    Fully concur.

For the price of a tech camera (without lenses), it'll enable me to get several T/S lenses. I am a bit puzzled that they've started with a 120mm instead of something wider.

Keep these Pre-kina snippets coming. By next week there'll probably be a whole array of things we need......

not so sure about the price. I guess this thing won't be a steal.
Tech cameras will of course still provide much more movements and I think it's not so easy to beat the lens performance of the Digitars and HR lenses.
My problem is the P1 camera body anyway... I really don't like it.
Now with T/S lenses an exchangeable finder would make even more sense...

Just arrived in Germany and checked into our hotel. Beautiful hotel in a castle! Really cute barhop.

The Phase One and Leaf Dealer Conference are this weekend. Though likely the news from that conference will be embargoed until Tuesday. However, the moment it's allowed we'll post details galore.

Notes from the show floor will begin Tuesday (German time).

We have private meetings/interviews scheduled with Cambo, Leica, and Schneider so far. Arranging more on the fly at the show.

Again, if you have questions for these companies or others please let us know and we will do our best to get them answered at the show!

Obviously Doug gets to play with too many toys so his focus is on the finer things in life. Now Doug if the young lady heard you say barhop she might just smack you down dude. Now if you said a very cute bartender than you may just have a chance or she would just smack you down anyway since you have no beer or pretzels to offer her.

4:3 format, great! I think that is a decent upgrade from 39MP.
Any further information about the sensor... is it Dalsa or Kodak? What is the pixel pitch?

Re: Photokina Coverage by Capture Integration

Here is the body of press release:

    >>

We are happy to inform you that Leaf Imaging today introduced the world’s highest resolution, one-shot medium format digital camera back.
The Leaf Aptus-II 12 (and Leaf Aptus-II 12R with internal rotating sensor) delivers the world’s highest-quality image capture. It is both a major technical advance and another important illustration of the benefits of medium format camera technology – namely, the ability to support a very large image sensor, with enormous light sensitivity and high dynamic range.

The powerful new full-frame 53.7 x 40.3mm 80 MP CCD sensor is at the heart of a system specially designed for a range of photographers such as commercial/advertising pros, archivists digitizing and persevering rare treasures, and fine artists. Whether the subject is architecture, landscape, portraits or product advertising, the sheer quality of detail is unsurpassed. This level of resolution eliminates moiré and more perfectly renders objects – from the texture of fine fabrics to the smooth curves of car metal.

    Technical highlights:
    CCD: 53.7 x 40.3mm 80 MP
    Dynamic range: 12 f-stops
Largest file size: 480 MB 16 bit TIFF
    ISO Sensitivity: 80-800
    Capture rate: 1.5 sec/frame

The Leaf Aptus-II 12 and Leaf Aptus-II 12R support a wide range of camera brands including Phase One 645DF and AF and Mamiya 645DF and AF cameras, most Hasselblad V models and a selection of large format cameras via adaptors.

    Pricing and availability:
The Leaf Aptus-II 12 and Leaf Aptus-II 12R are available for your orders NOW, and will be delivered by the end of Q4 2010.

    The Leaf Aptus-II 12 and Leaf Aptus-II 12R digital backs are priced at €23,995 / $31,995.

    Part numbers:
    010-00916A Leaf Aptus-II 12 Phase One/Mamiya 645 mount
    010-00917A Leaf Aptus-II 12R Universal/V mount

For full product specifications, including all supported cameras, please see http://www.leaf-photography.com/products_aptus212.asp

Sounds like. I suspect because the 6x4.5 cam backs don't support enough size to allow a full-frame sensor mounted vertical, where the Hassy V at 6x6 back doesn't care which orientation it has...

Oh, you meant for other 645 cameras -- DUH!

No H-mount is what I guess is what Thomas is referring to. All the better, people with Hasselblad equipment should not be teased too much.

Wow, talk about supersizing your back. The landscape shooters ought to love this puppy. I really like that rotating sensor... even a bit more than the rotating back I've got with my Sinar.

the "Sensor Plus" model... not the basic sensor design... so the same as with the 60MP sensor?

BTW: I think this new back deserves its own thread :-)

Check this out. I'm feeling I 'm not making the grade anymore with 40 mpx. LOL

Is this new Leaf Back now considered top of the line. It seems to be priced approx. $12k lower than the P-65+. What's the Phase back have that this one doesn't??
