Good news all!

Due to high demand we have decided to make the Aptus-II 12 also in Contax mount. Availability is expected in January 2011.
that is even better news :D
also good to hear the Apt.12 is successful for Leaf - congratulations!

Yair, would you be so kind and post more samples, like the one from Capture-Integration? The file quality seems intoxicating. Furthermore, is leaf also part of Phase One's new Investment Protection program?

I'm asking since you're a wholly owned subsidiary ...

Hi Paul,

At the moment there is no plan to implement the same programme.

I'll be posting some more images in the next 2-3 weeks as I take the back across Europe and let more people shoot with it.

Yes the image quality can be overwhelmingly addictive:)

Not to go too far OT, but have you tried the 80 f 2..8 AF lens on the Hy6? Its AF is right on, its a small light lens, and amazingly sharp.
yes, I have that lens and just recently have taken some images which I liked so much that I told myself to use the 80/2.8 not enough after getting the 110/2.0.

My Hy6 has been at Sinar for AF improvement and after that AF seems better.
Still I dont trust it 100% yet. Plus the finder is so good the often manual focus jsut works perfectly reliable and fast enough.

Cripes, that would be reason enough to snatch up a Contax 645 kit ... :)

So many cool things ... so little money ... :ROTFL:

maybe we could waste some time by specualting which of the old Contax lenses will hold up well enough on such a sensor :)
It'd be worth any minor trade off to get the character of some of them.

I'd wager the 120 macro will hold up for sure! 350 APO also.

With announced inclusion of the C645 mount, someone seems interested in getting this back ... so we'll see eventually.

Interesting story Peter. I have a similar one - I also purchased a s/h system before the melt down and subsequently talked to the new Australian agent - David Kay - about upgrading the firmware .He organised for it to go back to Sinar for this and adjustment and check over ... like Peter I got a NEW BODY back as mine was one of the original models that could not be upgraded. Apart from the shipping this was done for FREE!!! amazing service especially considering I didnt purchase it new from Sinar. I might add that on the strength of this great service I bought a new arTec and some lenses - David Kay provides truly amazing service ,has a wealth of knowledge and is a all round good bloke!!:)
G'day John,

David has mentioned a WA fellow user and his artec experiinces! he is a really excellent fellow and a true photographer - which helps a lot. His understanding of technical matters is very helpful - across all brands. As you say his service levels are reaon enough to deal with him - and he is generous with his time to a fault.

Yair - c'mon surely you 'get the Aussie sense of humour! Seriously if David was (still) dealing in Leaf you would actually do some business down here - Leaf still delivers the bet out of the box colour IMHO.

Bradley - the body you sent me never worked properly with autofocus - didnt really matter since I had no autofocus lenses! There was also serious glitches with LCD display and metering. I picked up an autofocus 80 from Son and was dismayed to see the same crappy autofocus I had originally seen in a premarket body I was shown.

The new body? Autofocus fast and accurate. Metering spot on. LCD shows all information clearly and accurately. I love using the big boy with either WLF or the 45 I have. I might actually look for a glass with split screen focussing aid for my manual lenses - but in good light the screen is so clear it doesnt really matter. I'd rate the focussing screen better than my Hasselblad 200 and 500 series bodies, not as gorgeous as my mamiya RZ body - but that is a clunker compared to the silky Hy6. As an aside the hasselblad 200/500 bodies have mirror slap serious mirror slay ( which I love) but the Hy6 is smooth.

Arca hsa surprised me withier RM bodies - and teh body lens combination is a lot les expensive than Sinar...but teh Sinar system is the bees knees.

Pete ( stuck in front of a Bloomberg screen 24 hrs a day)

Cheers All.

don't know the 350mm, but the 120 macro will certainly do fine.
here's my guess:
I think all the lenses will be quite good in the center, but edge to edge I think the 45 is too weak and the 80 probably too... the 80 maybe somehow usable" at f11, but actually I don't think so.
The 35mm will be fine, also the 45-90 zoom lens @ 70mm, probably also @ 55mm. And the 140mm will certainly look very good.
we'll see... :)

Any of the Contax lenses that perform well with an Aptus-II 10 or a P65+ will do just fine with the Aptus-II 12

- There is metering built into the camera body, so metering and AE modes work with all viewfinder options.
- It actually has viewfinder options unlike some!
- great lenses, fast apertures and with leaf shutters offering up to 1/1000 flash sync
- by using a 6x6 format, the camera can remain upright at all times while just the sensor/back is rotated between landscape and portrait. This also allows use of WLF in portrait mode!
- more obscure features such as focus bracketing and focus trapping

The first 4 on the list are really what nail it for me.
Graham, you forgot a few! Looks for example:

Hi, Peter,

Very sorry to hear you had trouble with my former kit with AF lenses. (I too was all manual focus at the time.)

Is your camera firmware 3.10 now? I'll be sure to make sure my next is also up-to-date. Thank you for the update, and I'm glad they took very good care of you.

Best regards,

No problemo Bradley! I wanted to buy the Hy6 and try it..now the camera is so good I will probably look to add to my lens collection with a couple of autofocus lenses and get the faster flash sync along with them. ALL the lenses render differently to Ziess and HC blad - the 110/2 is my favourite version of the fast planars - I prefer it to teh blad F/FE versions i have and even to the 100/2 H.

I am more than very happy with the Sinar kit. The software workflow isnt as intuitive or as user friendly or as polished as C1 or Phocus ..but Expose does a great job with giving me flat linear files from raw and excellent correction for shooting with tech cameras - white shading.

from there I can use the DNG or tiff in any combo of post work prog I like - typically I use two to three specialist pieces of software after basic raw processing anyway, if I am going to keep and print. LR is getting good enough that with a couple of plugins and Imageprint - photoshop rarely gets used.

NICE photo Felipe! -:)
