    Lens shade for Cambo WRS

    Another RS question ...

Call me traditional but I've been searching for a lens shade solution for my RS (ignoring hats, caps, cards, FlareBusters etc for the time being). The Sinar arTec shade and normal Sinar bellows shade are on my shortlist, as well as Cambo's and Lee's shades. Anyone with real-life experience with these? Any other suggestions?

From what I can tell ...

    1. The arTec shade (with the folding/sliding panels) mounts on the lens using an adapter, but potentially precludes the use of centre filters for Schneider lenses.

    2. I was also considering Sinar's bellows lens shade in combination with the RS levelling base (which has an opening to insert mounting rods etc) but it looks like Sinar's bellows shade won't work because the mounting rod fits into the corner of the shade, not the centre.

    3. Cambo has their CSM-100 Flexible Hood, which is said to be able to be mounted onto the RS's hot shoe. However, Cambo's website is very low on detail. I would have thought that changing the bottom mount of the CSM-100 to fit a centered rod would work best with their WRS-333 Levelling Head. After all, Cambo's own marketing states that the levelling head can be used for mounting RS-related accessories.

    4. There is also Cambo's CSM-210 fixed Mattebox but it looks potentially limited and intended more for video production. I like the look of it because it reminds me of the plastic hood on my 35mm Summicron, just BIGGER. Nevertheless, I think it also suffers from the same uncertainties as Cambo's Flexible Hood.

    5. Then there is the Lee Wide Angle hood. I haven't used Lee gear in years, so not sure if they've changed much. Also not sure how appropriate the hood is with the RS's bullbars and Schneider Centre filters.

    Thanks.

P.S. I've also cross-posted on LL's Cambo Wide RS Tips 'n' Tricks thread.

I have the Less WA hood and works fine with all three HR lenses (two with bull bars and one without because of T/S mount). I have all 3 lenses with the WA hood adapter on them and great for quick release and remount when I change lenses (which I rarely do).

I don't use Centre Filters as the Lens shading with both C1 and Sinar eXp work extremely well.

    Hope that helps...

Thanks. Sent a query to Cambo regarding their lens shades, but still waiting on a reply. Their website doesn't help much (at least with respect to this particular question).

Re: Lens shade for Cambo WRS

For anyone who's interested, Cambo have confirmed that they are working on a modified version of their CSM-100 Flexible Hood to fit the spigot mount at the front of the WRS-333 Levelling Head. However, they pointed out that "there will be minimum length of the lens barrel to avoid vignetting".

No mention of when this modified lens shade will actually be ready.

EDIT: Cambo also mentioned that their Wide RS Special Edition from Photokina 2010 featuring leather inlay and wooden handgrips will be available "shortly". It looks beautiful and completely different from the original version:
