Mamiya AFD- ZD Back. Self timer

I have a ZD back on a Mamiya AFD.
Is it my camera or is there a trick to make the self timer work.
I was sure it worked the first time I tried it but it does not seem to work
now. I tried removing the batteries to reset the system but no luck.
Can someone shed some light on this subject ?
