    IQ180 delivery

    Hi All,
I've been following GetDPI for about 6 months now. Sorry to post the following rather boring topic as my first post, but wondering if anyone can give me a read on delivery dates on the Phase One IQ backs. I finally took the plunge back in March and ordered my first MF system, the Phase One IQ180, from Digital Transitions in New York City. As of last week, though, I'm still waiting for delivery and my dealer said they have no idea when the unit will arrive, that Phase One will not give dates (which I have seen others on this Board say as well). Any advice on this topic, or do I just wait.... the anticipation is killing me! Have most other folks got theirs by now, or are a lot of folks still waiting? With a late March order, should I have gotten mine by now?
Thanks - I'm sure my future posts will be more interesting!

I'm still waiting for the IQ-160 (Hasselblad V mount) I put a deposit on in March. Undoubtedly, the dealers are anxious to complete the transactions almost as much as we are anticipating using the backs. My work is tied to the seasons, as far as buyers and subjects are concerned, and the end of this season is approaching quickly.

    Re: IQ180 delivery

I haven't got mine yet either, probably because I was away until the very last day of March so my order just squeaked in under the discount wire. My Toronto dealer keeps making encouraging noises but....

Which leads me to wonder - my P65+ is worth a 65% discount on the trade-in. Does that mean my IQ180 will be worth a 180% discount on the next generation?

Owning a high-end MFDB could finally be financially rewarding....

It's actually pretty complicated and no real answers. There have been gaps, parts shortages and over demand plus a mired of other things that none of them can be confirmed or relied on as even the dealers don't know when your back is coming until they get a invoice for it. Patience grasshoppers seems to be the word on this one. And yes it pains me to see people waiting for them.

But let's face it, having to "do' with a "mere" P65+ really isn't that tough....

If I'd never shot with a IQ180 back in March I probably wouldn't be missing it, but having had a taste I'm getting MIGHTY IMPATIENT!

Ordered mine (IQ180 M-mount) 2/9, still waiting. I have been next on the dealer's list for over 7 weeks. Hopefully this week.... It's been quite frustrating.

It's not Guy's first name that matters. It's the NY relatives in the 'family' that matter.

My understanding is that the IQ backs in V mount have recently started to ship. Not sure about the backlog. I put in my order for an IQ 180 in an H mount around mid-March, and unfortunately Phase has not even scheduled the H mount backs for future shipment. I am quite disappointed as I have several extended photography related trips coming up, beginning with a trip that starts this weekend.

Your unit has shipped from Denmark today. That means in your hands end of this week or early next week. You'll hear from our accounting department today!

Still waiting for my IQ140 (M), ordered last week of Jan - I hear that at least one dealer has taken delivery of an IQ140, so I guess I just have to wait, but I'm glad I have the P40+ loaner.....

    Re: IQ180 delivery

There is no question this has been frustrating for all involved (except those who have received theirs - they've forgotten all about it!).

No real single issue that you can put a finger on, as has been discussed, it's a combination of factors - new cutting edge sensor technology (low yields), component shortages, very high demand, summer vacations (let's not forget that), which were not considered to be a factor initially, but the extent of the backorder was not anticipated either, so summer vacation has played more of a role than expected as a result.

While we had initially received steady shipments, we had a gap of weeks and weeks with no IQ180's delivered (though we did receive IQ160's during that period). Compounding this is that Phase has at times not shipped units in the exact order of placement - though the variance has only been off by 1-2 spots in the order, so normally this might mean, not this week's shipment, but next week's. Except in this case - the next week's shipment turned out to be next month's shipment. Quite frustrating.

I will say though, that shipments have picked up, and it seems to be ironing itself out. And hopefully this will continue and the additional wait will be shorter than we fear.

There's nothing particularly unique about this situation, but that doesn't make it any less stressful. Most of the products we sell just have a knack for not sitting on a shelf waiting for a buyer, nor are they produced on an assembly line.

    Re: IQ180 delivery

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Much like preventing rain by bringing an umbrella, I seem to have "caused" delivery by starting this post over last weekend. I received a most unexpected phone call today - my IQ180 was in and ready for pickup! No surprise - I dropped everything and went right over, and now it's in my hot little hands! To give this context, I ordered at the end of March, so hopefully all the folks who ordered in a similar timeframe but have not yet received delivery will get theirs soon.

Now for the fun part.... gotta go out and play with this bad boy!

Got mine today but it was dark when I got home...so this is my first IQ180 shot, with the 45 mm.

Not much of a resolution test though....! Hope to wring it out tomorrow.

must be damn annoying to have to look at a landscape like this on a regular basis. I am thinking a house swap for 6 months is in order.

I loved the shot you did of same location - one winter, one summer?

    Re: IQ180 delivery

Thanks guys, it is hard living in such a location but someone has to do it!

More seriously, I did run a few shots today with the IQ180 and apart from the hugely improved screen/user interface, I find it has about a 1/2 stop increase in DR - at the high end. That white lighthouse in my various pictures blew out the highlights with my P65+ and I'd have to use -0.7 exposure adjustment.

Using the same camera body, lens and exposure the IQ180 holds the highlights perfectly - and the shadows remain the same. I reckon it's close to 13.5 stops of DR.

    Gotta love it!

Bill not going to see me argue with you on that one the 180 is about 1/2 stop better than my 160. This conclusion was immediate when Jack and I first tried the prototype.

What do you think about isos ?
I found iso 200 disappointing as iso 1600 in sensor + mode compared to the P40/60.
Iso noise is supposed to be improved on the IQ180 but it seams to be the contrary, is it just me or Phase marketing has been a bit 'optimistic' on that point ? ...

Iso noise is supposed to be improved on the IQ180 but it seams to be the contrary, is it just me or Phase marketing has been a bit 'optimistic' on that point ? ...
    Any input anyone ?

Good news for you that the Hasselblad V mount IQ backs are shipping. Have any dealers received shipping information on IQ backs for H series cameras?

I have received my IQ180 (Phase-mount) last week which I had ordered in June. Seems like Phase is getting quicker in fulfilling their orders. Now I am happily trying to figuring everything out.

Although I don't see this advertised by Phase, I have found that the IQ backs send the yaw & pitch data from the artificial horizon to C1 so that you can click on "A" in the leveling module and you get automatic correction of both the horizon and keystoning.

Really neat! Is this widely known and I'm just late to the party, or is it second nature to my fellow IQ users?

    Re: IQ180 delivery

My IQ160 arrived on Saturday too. Whoo hoo! Well, kind of.

Fabulous UI. Very fast review of images and I love the focus check and 100% zoom features. I like the touch screen UI plus also the buttons too which I found that I was using more than expected. It does a great job with reviewing my P40+ images that I have on CF cards. The only problem is that it doesn't capture pictures! I hate it when my predictions about early release hardware and software come true, especially when I'm the one experiencing the problem. It doesn't help that I know of several dead or failed IQ's delivered so far to individuals and dealers so all is still not 100% here. I'd hoped by now that they'd sorted these things out but I'm obviously mistaken.

Yes, I'm more than a little pissed ... more to follow ... let's see how that VA warranty works out because I've been stewing since Saturday so Monday should be an interesting set of phone calls.

(Btw, kudos to Doug for helping out on his Saturday evening but alas it doesn't make it ok yet. I consider this a Phase One issue, not CI at this point.)

Have to say yesterday when I was setting up the tech cam I was really going by the ball to set up the camera to level. I admit I did not look at any of my camera levels . First thing I did was hit play than click on the ball level everything up than if I needed to frame better just use the pan on my Z1 ballhead than lock down and take my first quick shot than fine tune from there but I had my cam leveled right out of the gate within seconds. Very very handy to have, I also have the beep on so I can hear when it lines up. Very cool feature. No need to try the A button

    Thanks for sharing Bill
I found that my artificial horizon does not exactly level
I compared it to 2 bubble level devices I got and found them both more accurate thatn the artificial horizon tool in the IQ.
Not sure if that's just my back but worth checking.
Otherwise this would be very welcomed feature

I agree, Guy - simply for composition reasons I level "in the field" so no need for the A button.

BUT - today I was shooting from a wallowing boat, no tripod of course. The A button came in mighty useful in processing!

Re: IQ160 delivery - Got it! But I have questions...

I received my IQ-160 back (for Hasselblad V) yesterday afternoon. The instructions are only for operation with the 645DF, so it's been many trial-and-error hours to get to where I've established a basic work routine.

The good news: I am astonished at how well this "steel brick" feels and appears to be constructed, and the touch-screen's super sensitivity and quick response even through the protective sheet, is a delightful surprise. I charged a battery to 100%, attached the back to the 503CW and made a few exposures, indoors, daylight. Auto WB was perfect and image quality very nice with just my old 150mm CF. After opening the shadows, pulling some detail into the highlights and removing all sharpening with CaptureOne, I tweaked and sharpened the TIF with Photoshop (I'm more comfortable with it at this point), and the image quality is outstanding.

Now the bad news: It won't fit my Hasselblad ArcBody (technical camera)! I've never had a problem with anything "V" system not fitting the ArcBody. That's a major bummer because I use the ArcBody much more than the 503. The primary reason I got the IQ was for the screen's solution to cumbersome tech camera viewing. Has anyone here solved this ArcBody problem?

There is a thin metal insert surrounding the film gate must be removed in order for the digital back to fit.

Thanks Phil. I saw that the back was hitting the wider inner strip (2), but couldn't close it enough to see if it would hit the thinner outer strip (1). Which one, or both, should be filed down?

No need to file anything. The entire insert can be taken out of the film gate frame and can be reinserted later if you want to shoot film.
