I'll say one thing about the FPS and that would be that there's NO CHANCE AT ALL of confusing one of these configurations with a regular DSLR!

Now if that had automation of the aperture and focusing settings too I'd have been impressed.

Still trying to learn the proper terminology (iow, I'm not entirely sure that this qualifies as a 'tech camera')...but since another monorail view camera has been posted, I'll drop mine into the mix.

Re: Show us your Tech Cam

It qualifies as a tech camera--a technical camera was a metal flat-bed view camera. I believe Linhof came up with the term and was used by Wista as well. The Cambo is techie enough.

To me it's a tech camera as it has geared precision movements, although I don't think anyone would argue the Alpa TC is a tech cam as it has a precision helical and mount.

It's the same camera, but it has a D800 as a capture device.

Not as sophisticated as I might have liked (as it lacks adjustability on the horizontal axis), but I'm using one of those double ended clips...one end attaches to the front standard and the other simply holds a black piece of board.

Re: Show us your Tech Cam

This babe must still be quite rare.

    Attachment 75187

    Attachment 75188

The Bicam III now finally has horizontal shift on the body/back too. They changed the grip last year too.
With the I/II, only vertical shift was possible.

The body is nice as it allows to be used as a pure wide-angle Tech cam, with the lenses in focussing mount (The 35mm here is on a special board, that fit the camera body directly, the other lenses have a bayonet-type mount). You can mount the back directly, or use it with a sliding back. Since the new body has now side shift I sold my sliding-stitching back.

(It also fits a bellow which adds more shifts and tilts the camera. It is then very similar to the Techno (maybe a bit less sturdy). Lenses must then be mounted on a simple board. A valid soltuion for studio work with simple tabletops)

I used to have to Flexicam before,(I showed it over at the LL forum) which is a similar bellow camera. It was fine in studio, even for repros, but not so much with the 35mm on location. Ground glass focussing isn't that easy when you can focus past infinity.

    Absolutely.

I used the up-side-down Alpa adaptor for the SWA and mounted the smallest ballhead I could find, the Cullman CB2. And then screw on the Disto of course...
On the MAX I use it on the left side instead of on top!

    Works really great!

And people joke about the meccano design of the Alpa. I love the fact that you can add just about anything to the system with all of the mounts and adapters!

The reverse mount is also perfect on the TC to give it a little lift too and then mount the tripod plate on it. It also helps when you use a film back to give extra clearance from the tripod head.

The artist reflected in the center filter is a nice touch. I bet the first person you give this to will say they think it is really cute that you are using antique cameras...

Only the day before yesterday I got a comment when I set up the Max in old town Marbella.

"What on earth is THAT?" (with big eyes and circling the camera)

I explained and he got enthusiastic and we conversed for 15 minutes about how it works in general terms. He was thrilled and said that he would search the net and read more....
I think this is nice who knows....maybe a future buyer of mf gear!

So, if anybody feels lonely and seeks friends I would advice, buy yourself a dog, a Harley Davidson or an Alpa either works....

Thank you Dan for the info . Your adaption is a good idea .
I have a CB2.7 mini ball head on order now and will make the adapter myself .
I am so keen on this , because I am fedup with putting the DISTO in my trouser pockets and dropping my purse or keys when getting the DISTO out again .

    Hi
I still love my Cambo, but been playing with the Arca, using old lenses, this lens has the shutter on the front, now I found a guy to make an adapter bushing and mounting the shutters on the back.
Hope I get something good before the end of the year. It been sooo hot here!!

I have no idea what you are talking about? You would obviously need a really good picture of a leaking faucet before you could replace it. And you would want the best tool for the job.

And the Alpa TC (Tethering Clip) is really useful for walking the dog. The fact you can add a lens and digital back is just a bonus.

And the Alpa TC (Tethering Clip) is really useful for walking the dog. The fact you can add a lens and digital back is just a bonus.
Haven't lied about my tech camera but then I told my wife the Leica Monochrom is the cheapest digital Leicas because it only takes black and white....every time I take it out to take pictures of our kids she would complain that I was "too cheap" to buy a color version.

Exactly. You should tell her the B&W version of Photoshop is cheaper too.

His most prized piece? A 1934 Leica 250, one of only 1,000 ever produced, and likely one of the very few that has survived nearly 80 years.

    The gear isn't the problem.

Its the insurance listing that has the insured value totaled at the bottom...

"Mine" for a little while thanks to Digital Transitions and Lance Schad. For the resulting image from this set up, check out my latest article on the Cambo WRC-400. The final image from this set up took around 45 minutes of separate exposures including 5 different digital back positions (stitching), LCC's, dark frames, and different focus points allowing for 5 different final stitches to be combined into a focus stack for ultimate DoF

Re: Show us your Tech Cam

Am I texting into the right box? Hope so ...

Having been a silent reader of these pages for quite a time now I thought to take advantage and say hello to this fantastic community. It looks you guys are the REAL photography freaks - meant in the best possible way.

Not having great experience in the view camera field yet I won't be posting too much next months, instead it will be more reading and learning, learning, learning. There is so much to know for this next step - and it's adventurous times to be able getting into.

Just this one post at least I wanted to send for start, stepping out of anonymity. I am a German photographer (and right now also photography guide) who moved to Venice in Italy. The sun, the kind of how to live a life in the Mediterranean area, well, guess I don't have to get into details.

For the beginning I thought to join into your tradition of showing my new sweet piece of equipment (a quick snap yesterday for my blog - the text is for my followers who usually shouldn't know this kind of equipment, so don't wonder).

In a first step the Alpa Max, the Rodenstock HR40, and a tilt adapter will do their job without too many fancy add-on features around - keeping things simple. Knowing of this getdpi virus on the equipment side I hope to not catch it too quickly

Thanks to all of you writing up so much of information here cannot tell how much of value this is for me! There will be the day I feel comfortable first asking one and another question, later sharing my experiences and solutions for others - and then I will happily join the discussions.

    Till then I'm watching you

Does this count? The beautiful 32 HR Alpagon 17mm Short Barrel.
The lens is almost as beautiful as the pictures it takes!

Re: Show us your Tech Cam

My MF gear has finally started arriving.

A big thankyou to the getdpi community for advice and help and answering questions that have been asked a million times by people like myself who are trying to enter the tech cam market. Yes it is a personal choice but it is always good to get the perspective of those who know.

Special thanks to Michelle and Doug at DT who have been quite accommodating at helping me spend my money Really nice people to deal with and a lot of info.

Lastly to Bob who was extremely helpful and understanding.

So I settled on an Arca Rm3di
    Rodenstock 40mm
    Rodenstock 70mm
    Rotamount
    Viewfinder
    IQ180
And of course the Arca cube.

Dante's Inferno is well and truly alight and I am loving it.

    Now to chase the light.
Stop chasing gear, start chasing photos instead.

Jeff, but my friends call me Dogs
