Dan, if you would mount the Hasselblad 40 with a Mirex Hasselblad V - Canon EF TS adapter on a Canon mount to the Alpa FPS, you would get +/- 16mm shift and tilt with that lens (and any other V lens).
No need to use the Canon adapter Chris, keep it all ALPA :)

FPS + Max + 17mm T/S adapter + the Hasselblad V mount adapter would do the trick.

(Basically, the set-up Dan has in his photos at the top of this page, but with the Max in place of the TC)

Chris, it's like Gerald explained. The Hassi V lenses have both the tilt/swing adaptor + traditional Alpa body mounted on the FPS. So I have the choice to keep it as small as possible with the TC or full movements with the MAX.

I have only just started to try shifts with the Distagon 40 IF, but it seems like 10mm shift on the long side is perfectly alright and usable - after that it gradually starts to soften up and vignette. Overall the IF is pretty impressive even with the mighty 60mp back.

Thx Dan and Gerald, ooookay, I see, I did not know that it would be possible to combine Hassi V lenses + Alpa TS adapter + Alpa cam + Alpa FPS.
But I plan to visit Alpa CH end of May to test the FPS with the IQ180 and my EF mount based shift lenses (Canon 17TSE, 24TSE, Contax 35 + Mirex EF, HB 50FLE + Mirex EF, HB 100 + Mirex EF). Looking forward to discover that new tool/toy.
Btw, would be very interesting to compare the shifted corner quality of the Contax 35 and the Hassi V CFE 40 IF but I don't have one on hand (only the CF 40 FLE / CFE 40 which is not so impressive).

I am happy with the resolving power from the Distagon 40 IF. The non-IF FLE and CFE are not up there. However, this resolution comes at a price - more distortion. In the image below you can clearly see how the horizon distorts. On a side note, the placement of the camera is more extreme than it looks. It is only around 35-40cm above ground and I have full 5 degrees forward tilt. The original file shows impressive detail and sharpness.
It will be interesting with your findings matching the FPS with your lenses!

I have the DISTAGON 40 IF as well and find it to be an outstanding lens .
Unfortunately I can only use that lens with my V-SYSTEM bodies .
As I use HASSELBLAD CFV backs , I can use the lens correction function in PHOCUS . I don't know , if this function is available for P1 or LEAF files .

Might be that ALPA comes up with some new lens corrections for the mostly used lenses with the FPS .

I had a chance to try out the Arca Swiss RM3D and eModule Cloud solution this weekend along with an IQ260 prototype.

I found it very interesting and couldn't keep my eyes off it

Why don't you want to talk about it? :)

Chris
I was in lust ... and I quite liked the Arca and IQ back too.

None of them were mine unfortunately and I was just trying them out for the weekend. The girl was a very scenic photobomb while I was shooting long exposures around the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. No trace of her remained in the 30 minute exposures

Btw, the eCloud module seems like it works once you've calibrated it for infinity. I'm not tempted away from my Alpa and Distometer but it was interesting to try something different. The glass is all the same after all.

I preferred my crop of the scene above but here's the reality:

A little disappointing the chick is posing for the guy with the iPhone. You spend all that money on the ultimate babe magnet and the guy with the Fort Escort beats you to the punch. Maybe it is because you forgot your Cube. The P series heads are great, but are not as magnetic.

Pete, its a must have! :toocool:

I have only just started to use it, so I will avoid any in depth analysis. However, as a first and initial impression it is OUTSTANDING. I have been used to the classical Alpas for quite some time and the Schneider tech lenses, thus, the FPS and non-tech lenses will have a tough game to play.

Right now I am trying out my Hassy V lenses and the Distagon 4/40 IF is up there in resolution. Haven't done distortion tests yet, but it will be a landscape lens anyway.
The Schneider PC-TS 90 is razorsharp and it really is handy to have all the movements right there in the lens.

I could actually see myself with a two lens setup in the future - PC-TS 28 + PC-TS 90 + FPS + CREDO 60 and call it a day. I could probably do 85% of my work with these two lenses and for the rest - I could have a beer instead ;)

I am only beginning to explore the FPS but the feel is tremendous and the possibilities endless.

If you try one - you buy one!
Hi Dan,

I am rather busy with building my farm house at the moment so don't check in much. Thank you for your reply. I have decided to 'take the plunge' and buy my version of an elephant gun back an IQ260 in Mamiya mount for use with my tech camera gear.

The FPS looks perfect for me because I can use a variety of lenses with and without movement ...keep us posted on the stuff you end up doing. I wonder how you go about 'framing' the shot you intend to make using the FPS?

All the best
Pete
