Phase iXR as an Alpa type body?

Can someone tell me if the iXR could be used as a mirror-less Alpa style body?

It is after all simply a fancy box made for a Phase LS lens at one end, and the back at the other. Most of us own 2 of those components already. Fit a finder in the hotshoe, and away you go, or am I missing something?

problems:
lack of a mounting point for a handgrip or even a strap (doh, phase!)
power - do they really need an AC adapter (on an airplane for the iXA?) Can it operate with the IQ battery pack alone?

advantages:
mirrorless and electronic leaf shutter images, simpler, quieter, lighter, less vibration.
compared to Alpa: faster lenses, but less choice.
Electronic leaf shutters, not manual ones - no cocking + faster sync.

would this work?

You need power supply for both iXA and iXR (it does not take power from the back)

IXA has 4 thread mounts in the front designed to mount to the airframe/gimble/what have you so somebody resourceful could possible design a grip mount to make use of those or there is a 3/8" thread in the base and on the left side of the iXR.

Thanks, I saw the iXA has a huge array of power/port requirement on the lower back side, from its PDF. The iXF brochure however has no image of the reverse of the back, so you couldn't tell.

What a wasted opportunity by Phase. They could easily have released a stripped down body for just back and LS lenses, for people who don't want or need a giant 645 SLR bazooka body and prism/finder. The backs power could handle the Leaf shutter, use manual focus on LS lens, et Wa-La.

The IQ or Credo back needs to be tethered to C1 in order to change aperture and shutter speed. If the back is untethered (CF card) then the body needs to be tethered to an SDK based interface to do the same thing.

For a handle there are standard 3/8" thread holes on the bottom and on the side so you can fit a L-grip like on the RZ etc.

Hope this helps

Firmware update to include an "iXR mode" where the buttons on the back control aperture and shutter speed?

Voila - no tethering required.

All you need is a nice little airplane to attach to the camera, no tethering required. ;)
