    ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

The Swiss alphorn players play a song of a new ALPA 12 camera .
A new independant ALPA model , fully integrated into the existing ALPA system . A shutter module will be able to attach HASSELBLAD V-SYSTEM lenses . If it is a shutter module and not just a HASSELBLAD V-adapter , it should be able to attach the F/FE-lenses as well .
That would be great for ALPA owners , who also have the CZ FE110 glass .

Sorry , I can not hear more from the players , as the wind is rather strong here today . But I could imagine , that with some adapters for other MF lens brands the new ALPA 12 would not only be a very interesting supplement for ALPA users but also a very good start for newcomers into MF digital technical cameras .

More news might come with a newsletter around mid September .
    Regards . Jürgen .

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

    Dear Jurgen,

Maybe something like this Hasselblad V lens adapter for Cambo wide on ebay?

cambo WDS WRS Lens board (fit hasselblad lens) phase one, leaf ,hasselblad back | eBay

If Alpa put an adapter with shutter for CZ FE110 (I still own one), will be great.
something similar to ALPA lens adapter Rolleiflex 600x/Hy6 / Sinar Hy6 / Leaf AFi lens.

In this case, this shutter adapter should be able to adapt all different kind of lenses which included all 135 lenses which can cover Medium format digital back. also movie lens... of course, flange focal distance will need to be adjustable

    just my 2 cents

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

As far as I could figure out the rumor , it will not just be an adapter , but a totally new camera plus a shutter module .
I am very curious myself and am impatiently waiting for more information
    to come along .
The possibility to get my CZ FE110 adapted as well as other HB V-SYSTEM lenses is a great idea IMO .
    There might be a newsletter at the 12th , late afternoon . . . . Waiting .
    Regards . Jürgen .

Alpa website just implemented a new design. Very nice.

And I'm going to miss the excitement because this plane takes off in 15 minutes

Looks great and I bet it works a treat but I'm not sure I see the point??

Is this to be used instead of a Phase DF etc?

how cool! not sure i would want one, but a nice job
The T/S BS however is a reach, since that functionality comes from the lens/mount, not the body. could be even more useful if you could stick on a Cambo T/S mounted lens!

So I guess you could take a Nikon/canon TS lens bolt it on and use your back. Interesting and exciting at the same time.

Yea it seems very interesting and I guess you could make use of far less expensive lenses to use with your back but limited by IC and movements of your lens. Not a total solution but very cool in a way.

This is a sincere question........ Who is this aimed at?

Its not a DSLR as you need a viewfinder and its not a tech camera as it has no movements.

I own a MF DSLR and a tech camera..... should I be excited about this camera?

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

I think it's really aimed at a DF or H shooter only. Not tech cam users. I guess what it buys them is the ability to use there backs with Nikon or Canon glass. So a cost saving solution than buying a tech cam . Even though it uses also a lot of options too which could be used by anyone with multiple systems as well. So for a 35mm and MF guy you get some interplay with your whole system. It's a great question. I'm asking myself the same thing , how could I use this thing. LOL

I think it's great innovation for Alpa users. Not sure of all the applications/capabilities but am I the only one that is reminded at least remotely of the Hcam ??

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

I think this camera points out the weak link in the MF world: the lack of a simple and effective way to focus. All this exotic technology, but you still have to figure out how far away your subject is.

As John said, though, very cool. In the hot rod world, they call designs like this "trick." That's a good thing.

sitting and watching with a smile.......
Just so much- I welcome this entry and Alpa´s confirmation of our concept.
This will help HCam as well, there are enough differences for a perfect coexistance !

Actually, Stefan, if I might suggest----how about adding some beautifully hand-rubbed rosewood hand grips to the HCam.....

    Dear Stefan,

You should make an adapter for Alpa camera body to your Hcam.
So Hcam can take all Alpa lenses with camera movements.

This is the ultimate expression of Swiss thinking - literally the Switzerland of camera systems.

My wallet just ran off whimpering into a corner ...

Btw, Stefan's HCam still has universal appeal as it has the sliding back adapter for focus and I'm sure that it'll be way less expensive!

now stefan, please be so kind to introduce the first budget digital back ... kind of like what blackmagic design just did for the cinematographers by repackaging a sensor into a 3k usd cinema dng raw video camera. that would truly democratize the franken camera concept

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

    we already have the HCam-B1v
this will take any Alpa parts if anyone wants this.
But I see this is not very likely, Alpa users will stay with Alpa,
But we can also use Cambo, Arca, Sinar, Linhof and more adapters for the
Front - as well as we do have a shorter flange focal distance so we do start
with lenses from 60mm whereas I doubt Alpa´s double module can go much shorter than maybe 90mm.

Didn't like to bring it up myself but as for it being a "Trick" it all seems very familiar. No disrespect to the Hcam but it's hardly revolutionised the MFD world and if this new camera didn't have an Alpa badge on it would we be getting quite as excited about it?

It does look a great camera, with great functionality but don't think I'd ever want to buy one........ time will tell once they hit the streets.

Badge aside, who else here is thinking of ordering one of these and why?

    I just returned home .
With what I see on the ALPA page , I feel breathless and very dizzy . Never ever happened to me before with new photogear .
All I see and have still to study is far beyond what I expected and could imagine in my dreams .
I can't say more in the moment .
Looking forward to have the FPS in my hands .

Don't think that's correct re the flange distance Stefan - the Alpa will take Canon EF lenses.

    Re: ALPA rumors Photokina 2012

    Jurgen,

What I like here is that they've taken a leap beyond just their existing solution and added flexibility for lots of other glass including t/s lenses from the 35mm and MF domains. The only thing really missing is decent live view on the digital backs - something that I'm sure they are betting on in the future and will be ready for. In the meantime it'll be GG focusing or existing tech cam focus approaches.

It won't appeal to everyone but I'm very excited at the opportunity to expand my tech cam shooting options with longer & wider glass, plus also the FPS automation support.

    Kind regards,

    Gerald.
I am not talking about the Canon Lenses.
If you take a look at the Rodenstock/Schneider...Techlenses these sit either on a shift/Alpa Camera module(with shift) movements or an adapter plate with extension. The focusing helicoid and the plate limit the usage of the lenses to about 60mm, you can use recessed lens boards for short focal lenghts, but then the operation will become very uncomfortable and- as the actual wideangles of Schneider and Rodenstock are having several problems with HIghres MF anyway does not make much sense at all.

Been waiting for that one too. Lol

It does offer some long lens options. Heck bolt every Nikon lens on it and get a 80 mpx wonder. I know I know but it's a interesting thought.

Maybe that´s a bit longer on the barrel so it would fit. I can also imagine the ALPA body is a bit slimmer than the HCam and uses an adapter for the Canon Module on the front. Most interesting for me is there is not one single image showing that. Curious if it made it to the photokina release or if that one is delayed. As I said, I wish them all the best and I hope I can also see it on Photokina.

It does offer some long lens options. Heck bolt every Nikon lens on it and get a 80 mpx wonder. I know I know but it's a interesting thought.
I don´t want to destroy these ideas, but it is essential the teles are not REAL Telelenses as those have lensgroups sitting comparable deep in the barrel, so there will be barrelvignetting if these are used on a large 80 Mpix chip. You can check our Lenscompatibility list , this already has a lot of infos that are also valid for ALPA12FPS

Can anyone tell me what this means "The ALPA 12 FPS is a shutter module when it is used together with another ALPA 12 camera."? It does not look like a module that can be attached to another body to me.

There are photos of it attached to another 12. Here's one -

Thanks. So I am guessing it is only good for SB lenses?

I meant, it is good for non SB lenses if not attached with other cameras, or SB lenses as an module.

The ALPA website has three pdfs showing a "normal" ALPA system, the FPS as a stand alone, and the FPS used with another ALPA body. It looks like you'd need SB lenses for the FPS even used alone, as well as a short adapter. The parts cost is going to add up.
