After setting up a studio in my basement, and watching the very excellent Felix Kunze videos on Portrait Lighting and watching almost all the Elinchrom you tube videos; I finally worked up the courage to ask my Granddaughters to pose for me

    Re: Fun with MF images

Something different from my usual this time, shot on the XF with 150mp back though a Hasselblad FE 110/2.0 wide open, lit with a single on-camera flash, bounced off the wall off to the left hand side. It was a real struggle to focus manually with a moving subject and such high resolution so my hit-rate was super low, I wonder why the XF doesn't have a split focusing screen option?

A portrait this time. On the X1D with XCD90. Legendary surfer Kelly Slater, photographed in Bali recently. Hand held, available light...which was gorgeous sunlight through a large glass door on his right.

    Re: Fun with MF images

I am pretty happy with the new X1Dii announcement (I guess unlike many others), though the X1D used prices will plummet. But the X1D remains the same wonderful tool with great IQ it already was. Here is a celebration...ok, one pic from the X1D with XCD21 (which I think is a MUST BUY for wide angle shooters). Bali Omnia Beach Club, one of the hottest clubs in Bali nowadays.

While some of us distract ourselves with the latest announcements from Hasselblad, here's a shameless postcard-y shot I took while wandering around Stockholm with my X1D one lovely summer afternoon last week...

Thank you! I did do a one on one workshop with David. It was super valuable and I would recommend it to anyone.

***Edit: After 18 hours on the road in 24 hours, I did not add a caption. My apologies for being less than lucid. The image above was a follow-up to an earlier image in October last year. This time there was little rain and the water flow was only a fraction of previous levels, but the light rain was coming down as I set up on the wooden bridge for this image. Mosquitoes and rowdy kids on vacation bouncing on the bridge made it less than enjoyable, but considering the tranquility of the water, the darkness beneath the tree canopy, and the quiet after the visitors left, I enjoyed the experience and I did manage a capture to gauge my next image on our return trip the next morning. But, heavy storms rolled into the Smoky Mountains overnight and caused road closures throughout the National Park. Maybe in October, we will return.

A lifestyle product shoot recently in Le Brassus, Switzerland. Hasselblad X1D with XCD45. Cropped image. The lens only has a magnification of 0.16 at closest focus distance, and hence only lifestyle shots are possible. With the XCD120's 0.5 magnification, whole watch shots are possible, but not close up on the details.

Watch is the new Breguet Marine Dame 9518, released recently in The Swatch Group's Time to Move Event.

    Playa Vallina, Asturias

Playa Vallina, in Asturias (Spain), features a beautiful double arch surrounded by crazily-shaped eroded rocks. It takes a bit of balance to get there (stones can be slippery) but it's definitely worth the hike. A 23 seconds exposure created at sunset with Hasselblad X1D, Hasselblad XCD 30mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

    The Sinks.

Yes, there were crowds and finding a good angle was an interesting exercise considering that some trees were being cut down and the logs and limbs blocked the usual viewpoint.

It's been a long time since I posted a picture. Here's the Canon 24 TS-E on the X1D. Nice to have that FoV, and nice to have shift.

I was a bit impatient. Should have waited perhaps 15 minutes more for a darker sky.

    Re: Fun with MF images

Like the lyrics of a Bob Dylan song, I can handle the stress in life. Most of the time.

When I struggle with it, final images take me a minute. A long minute. And I recognize when I dislike my work and I recognize when I can do no more.

    Endeavor to persevere!

    Glorious!

I see Antares and Scorpio. What's lighting the horizon? Moonrise?

Will you still be here on Sat? We have our National Day rehearsals. Fireworks on the bay! I should be shooting somewhere along the Bay...and you welcome to meet up if you like.
