Hi,
Thanks for responding!
Just as an explanation, when I am shooting I often do it with cropping on mind. Sometimes I plan to stitch, instead of cropping a wide angle image, started doing at (Godafoss waterfall on Iceland back in 2006), this is quite often, specially on medium format. Sometimes I stitch so I get a more square composition sometimes to get a wide aspect ratio.
So I don't feel bound by the aspect ration of the camera/sensor, but vary aspect ratio to fit my vision.
I can also mention, when I print large (above A2) I normally try to fill the frame. Choose a frame as close as possible to the aspect ratio of my subject.
The image below is a good example. I made it for an exhibition, it is stitched from two vertical frames on the Sony Alpha 99, and cropped to taste. For the exhibition print I resized it to 80x60 cm, which was closest to my intended crop.
Best regards
Erik
Hi Erik:
Thanks you for your suggestions. You are quite correct about the image of the Whiteface ski center - the missing top of the mountain is disturbing. In way of explanation, this is a personal snapshot, not intended for anything other than memories. I lived in the area many years ago and wanted a shot of the trails and the mid-way lodge in autumn. I decided to post this since some readers might like to see the Olympic trails and left the top trails as they were part of the downhill. The image of Lake Placid I quite like. There is structure and detail in the clouds on my monitor and the heavy cloud cover is as it appeared: rays of sunlight bursting through the clouds to illuminate the lake below.
