Just back from a week on safari in South Africa using my GFX rather than the normal 35mm DSLRs.

Very impressed with the pop from the GF 250 & 100-200 along with the TC. Also the ISO capabilities since I was dealing with max apertures of f/4, f/5.6 or at times f/8 with the TC. I set the Fuji to max auto ISO of 3200 and let exposure go where it needed to go, safe in the knowledge that I could always lift an underexposed image so easily in C1 Pro. These are all direct from C1 Pro 12.
Very nice. Can't wait to see what the GFX 100 can do in wildlife situations.

The PDAF and IBIS would certainly have helped beyond the OIS I had. The extra resolution though I think would not have been so relevant in these conditions.

Another view of the Singapore CBD. In color this time. Hasselblad H3D-39 with HCD28 and HTS1.5. Very small shift applied 0.7mm rise.

Graham, very well done!! Beyond the compositions and capturing the piercing eyes of each animal, the almost 3D pop is wonderful. And the image sharpness is off the charts.

As I've begged before, please adopt me. :D

I am going to be in Vegas soon, so might see if I can get out to the Grand Canyon while I'm there...
Grand Canyon is the place you have to see before you die! Something like that, if you've never visited.
I am really looking forward to seeing your pictures. Grand canyon + star trails/milky ways by you! It will be very cool.

So kind, Pramote! Very flattered... Any advice on locations for such a shot? I tend to find, with big expansive scenes where one looks down into them, that star trails shots can fall flat. The scene below them tends to get lost. Much better to be down in the scene looking up.

I went with the family last time so I went to visit only the generic spots. However, you will find out it's beautiful everywhere around sunrise and sunset.
I have no doubt other friends at GetDPI can give you better tips.
Any one want to chime in to help Ed?

I was anxious to try frame averaging on the IQ4150. I exposed an image for the lights and would normally expose 1 stop higher until there were no shadows blocked. I exposed the lights for 5 minutes of frame averaging and edited in C1. No layers just brought up the shadows, raised the exposure and dropped the highlights. Then corrected the aspect ration and cropped to suit. Incredible that there is very little noise even in extremely corrected portions of the file. It was 4am and I think there was a passer by or two but you’d never know it.

Looking at the finished file at full resolution I totally believe I could print and hang it in the gallery.

Ed, amazing technology and definitely at the deep end of the pool. I'll watch from a safe distance. Thanks for sharing your results.

:facesmack: Just adding Ed to my ignore list now ... :ROTFL: I really don’t need any more reasons to do the IQ4 upgrade!

But what about the free "zoom" =).

Frame averaging in camera as a raw file was actually one of the main reasons I made the jump. Yes it can be done manually in post, but that's just a lot more work/files/data/and finally processing power.

That shot #2 is just fabulous and truly impressive. Makes me want to go back after 50 years.
Lou,

Africa is intoxicating. I grew up there so I am biased but never get tired of returning. This is my 7th safari and 4th at Sabi Sabi. The good news is that after a while you can let yourself be much more creative and selective in what you shoot. The Fuji was great for mostly quiet moments. I wasn't even bothering with birds in flight or lots of motion though so it was definitely a case of picking the best opportunities to shoot knowing that you could get the most from the system's limitations.

As regards the pop - I realize that people will think that it's post processing but it really isn't. The Fuji lenses just pop'd wide open. +10 clarity in C1 Pro and then output as 1600px with standard optimization/output profile for screen. That's it, period.

Two inches in focus is fun to play with but when you get it right it makes for some super results. I'm not sharing the failures (of which there were many) :ROTFL:
