As long as the frame averaged image is in focus.... The live view on the 4150 is widely criticized and rightly so. Frame averaging is a niche benefit. Focus is critical!!

That said there are other benefits of the 4150 that you will appreciate such as exposure which takes a little learning but once you get used to it you will really appreciate it.

Cheers....

Interesting. I have yet to find OOF shots when using live view, not saying I am some sort of wizard or expert by any means, but my experience has been positive so far. I would prefer, of course, to have a version of Capture Pilot to lean on instead of using the screen on the back. Maybe we will see it some day.

So much agree. It's just that the experience between the live view on the 3100 vs. the 4150 is dramatically different and inferior. That is not to say that focus, with a little practice, on the 4150 cannot be repeatably obtained.

Capture pilot is a whole other issue.....

Cheers.....

Like many I was expecting an improvement in live view when I went from the 3100 to 4150. I wonder what went south? With 10X computing power and readout speeds they could have certainly done a much better job.

If you ever get a chance look at the live view of a 7RM4. I own one and it is a dream to see compared to the 4150 or the GFX. It has the same generation sensor with the same pixel pitch as the 4150 and yet gets around all of the apparent visual live view obstacles.

Thanks Victor,

I am deciding on a Sony body, I am between the 7R4 and the A9. I will check them both out. I think that for a small travel compact the 24MP may be better along with the way faster ES. But you know how that goes, I may end up getting both over time if I am not cautious.

I have both the Sony 7RIV and the Sony A9. I find my self using the 7RIV most of the time because of the additional MPX. Admittedly the faster focus of the A9 is a terrific feature, but the files aren’t as malleable as I have become accustomed to using the please one IQ1-100 or even the Nikon D850.

I don't think you will, wait til you try frame averaging.

You were right, I love frame averaging! Please forgive me, it was raining so all I could do was step out the back of my office with an umbrella, but I had just opened the box from Steve at CI and had to try it. First is 1/25th @f8 ISO 50, Second 1 minute frame average, Third just a behind the scene.

Victor, you were right on the live view, it seems to be a step backwards.

Congratulations! I am glad you are enjoying it. I know the feeling of having to test new gear when there is limited time. I have shot the least interesting subjects here at work for such testing purposes and to scratch that itch.

Alan, I sometimes wonder myself where I am..

”I am wondering if you don't moolight for your govermen”
Well I do have had both the Swedish “Secret polis” and the army as my customers.
And I was generously offered my own sandpit in Mali by the participants in a course that I held for the army , but I ungratefully declined..

But my main problem is that I am soon the last individual still working in Sweden with my specialist skill set, almost all the others with this knowledge are now in pension.
Last year I become 65, so I informed my customers that I was thinking about pension.
And they admitted that they had heard some rumours about this new concept, but they told me not to worry my silly little brain with things I don’t understand :loco:

So, the problem is the workload, but now I cut back to just 100%, and at the summer it will be maximum 50%. And slowly decreasing to nothing...
I really want to do much more on the photographic side of my life, so I will now be more active, continuously active that is.
So you will se more of me here from now on :chug:

Hello Ray. We do not know each other, but I will be 83 in February, and thankfully I am able to do more photographic work than ever. I am not, and never was a Pro, although I have been fortunate to sell my prints to support my habit. I have always done my own printing, starting in 1959 with my first darkroom, and now do digital printing. I like big prints ( 24"x32") from medium format, and 20"x30" from full frame 35mm. I hope as you back into retirement, you can pursue your wonderful photography work even more often. I am having a ball in my retirement years, and wish you good luck.
