The great tripod & head thread!

I wonder if Novoflex will release their own geared head at some point since they already have all the machining.
ALPA and NOVOFLEX surely have contracts . If the ALPA GON is an ALPA design , then NOVOFLEX is only a "subcontractor" like the SEITZ company , producing for ALPA .

You just squeaked that past the 30=day mark! Proud of you my younger brother...
Ah but we really know that Ken had an arrangement with Matt to postpone the purchase announcement until after the 30 day embargo so that you didn’t win the bet :ROTFL:

Ken,

Thank you - I'm delighted to take responsibility! I LOVE the TrioBal (especially with the L60). I have yet to get the leveling base for the Pro-75, as I think a Cube will always live on those legs. If I go back to Tech Cams, that may change, but I'm strictly a Leica S/SL shooter now, so the Cube is necessary. (Heck, The whole Pro-75/Cube is unnecessary, but it's ALPA level gear porn.)

Enjoy!

What, wait? Tripods can also be used with cameras? You mean there is another reason to buy them?

For the record---it's been more than 30 days.

Novoflex carbon fiber tripod on the way.

This is your fault Matt Grayson. (pointing my elbow at you ;))

Ken
I hadn't really looked at them that closely till you posted this. Now I'm getting ready to order - it's your fault :)

BTW, which one did you order? I'm intrigued by TRIOBAL=Q6/8, since I stitch so often. Looks like a sweet base. Just can't figure out how to order the legs without another base ...

I got a good deal from a trusted GetDPI family member on this tripod: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...ex_triobalc2840_triopod_tripod_base_with.html

I plan on using the AS L60 "Mini-Cube" on this tripod. This particular Novoflex tripod is just slightly smaller than the RRS-TVC-24---and that includes the Novoflex built in Triobalance leveler. Very nice. The KPS T5 goes back on the RRS TVC-24. AS Cube on the RRS TVC-33 and on camera stand.

Blame Matt Grayson for posting his images of the Novoflex and the L60 in this thread! The Novoflex leveling base is low profile and gives the AS L60 just a bit more latitude in adjustment---it's only real weakness (+/-10).

Mine’s on the way now. The website has a lot to be desired, the only way I could figure out how to put together the package I wanted was to watch the video and get the part numbers of the different leg options from that, then do a search on their website.

Probably some obvious way I missed, but after bumbling around for 20 minutes and then watching the video again I tried that.

What are those clamp things on the top for, anyway?

Matt
That's a great setup. I just got an L60 & Quicklink set myself.

BTW, Quicklink isn't removable on the tripod piece right? I attempted it for some reason and it just didn't come off.

What are your thoughts on the added height from quick link? Wouldn't your Cube sitting directly on the plate be more stable, in theory? I will use mine for smaller head/smaller tripod, but for my future cube, I think i'd go 'naked'..

Well, I thought I would be moving the cube between two tripods (the big Novy and a Gitzo 3). I also take it off for travel, so the quick link is VERY convenient. The tripod base piece may be fixed with two set screws - one on the base and one from the tripod. You'd have to loosen both.

Best,

Matt

Can anybody give me a hint for a light geared head - for small equipment?
max - X1D with an XCD120mm.

Is the L60 the small brother of the Cube?

Yes. You can see in Matt's post above (#552) both the L60 and Cube next to each other, the Cube being the larger of the two.

Other potential options that come to mind are the Arca-Swiss p0 hybrid (the L60 is basically the top half of the p0 hybrid) and the Alpa GON system.

I'm in the same boat with the X1D...I'd like to get a smaller-than-the-cube geared head at some point for the X1D.

Thanks for pointing this out Ken!

I had been looking at trying to pick up a TVC-24 in the near future (even went ahead and got a BH-40), but the Novoflex TrioBalance may be a better option. Almost the same price as the TVC-24, basically the same folded length as the TVC-24, but comes with the leveler and has an additional 10" max height over the TVC-24. Has a lighter load capacity but that's ok.

This thread is trouble.
