Franke & Heidecke file for insolvency

You know maybe but I honestly don't think so if they look at the overall market place like we do. It's very disconcerting all around and frankly I am soooooooooooooooooooo tired about hearing about financial stuff. My depression level keeps sinking daily and a lot of the world population is not very happy either. I just sent a note to some friends telling them I have gotten more Chapter 11 notices from my past clients at a very alarming rate.

Is he liquidating the company, or just filing for protection from creditors during a reorganization? I couldn't tell from the PDF.

If the company's current business is sound and the problems were holdovers from past bad financial practices, a court-protected reorganization could help it get going again.

Question is how much buyout funds are out there for someone to take control and is it worth it.

That is surely a key factor. More news, as it comes, may clear things up. It is sad to see how some of this is happening. Maybe it is the greater speed that seems to make it all go south faster than many (any?) of us have ever really seen in our lifetimes.

It is kind of sad to think that the fine technology that went into the Hy6 could be lost, or shelved. Not trying to fan flames of debate here, but just looking at the playing field now. Nothing else out there really matches what the Hy6 was capable of, even if its execution was at times stumbling. I really hope somebody picks things up and keeps it going, but we will have to wait and see.

Sad news for sure but much too early to say how it will end and what the long term impact will be on the Hy6 and Rollei lineup. IMHO, the most likely buyer is Sinar/Jenoptic.

It seems Thierry's demise was a result of this announcement being somewhat impending already...

But hey Pete, maybe there is an opportunity for you -- a nice little hobby company for you to scarf up cheap.

I'd rather be looking at my model than at my shoes LOL.
the waist level finder is also very handy if you don't have an eyelevel tripod.

Don't want one, hate them with a passion. I had hassy for 20 years. Doug the Contax is a nice system but not a religion my friend. And there is no future builds with it. Not something I am even interested in. I would flip any system on a dime if there was something that gave me any advantage. I have done it repeatedly, these are tools and that is all they are. They day I take any system that serious is a day i will hang up my straps and get out of this business entirely. You simply can't have your cake and expect the icing to taste good with any of them.

I'd consider replacing it with an RZ67 but would have to change my back mount.

MODERATOR WARNING
Discussion as to the liver temperature of Contax 645 or other dead or dead-appearing systems is strongly discouraged. Be careful, you never know when your favorite camera might be suddenly supported by a chapter 7 company or one merely acting that way. Consider that if they were any damn good then they would have generated enough sales to be interesting to somebody who would have at least bought the rights to the installed base.
Old Cameras, like relatives, often are most loved when gone.
You have been WARNED!
we return to our normal programming and apoligise for all of the inconvenience

Franke & Heidecke announce insolvency

The Franke & Heidecke GmbH, precision mechanics & optics, with seat in Braunschweig announced insolvency.

The Hans R. Schmid participation GmbH, open castle, had taken part in September 2008 by the majority in the society. For the majority partner Hans R. Schmid, there was an admitting supporter of the products of the house, that had called its commitment „affair of heart “, last no more alternative to the insolvency.

Although at the time of the assumption it was clear already that a successful redevelopment would be connected with substantial expenditure, accepted Schmid the task and acted decided: Additional specialists were adjusted, the weak points in the enterprise were analyzed and millions in manufacturing and quality assurance invested among other things.

By these measures it succeeded to obtain fast progress however the substantial omissions of the past were not to be eliminated in the necessary time. When last still - to the new partner at the time did not admit of the assumption - financial and other refuse dumps stepped to light, it became clear that a redevelopment would not have to be created under employment of further millions. This all the more, when in addition it came that negotiations with important business partners, banks and the attempt to receive public means likewise had failed.

The new partner had invested and held additional financial means to last several times and despite substantial exposures to loss in the enterprise the society and hope for receipt of the 131 jobs thereby is alive enough. Now the insolvency no more was not to be avoided. Altogether Schmid invested an amount of millions with two digits.

It is sad to see how some of this is happening.
Especially since a lot of it may have nothing to do with the fundamental soundness of the business itself. I suspect we're going to see a lot more of it with companies that primarily are dependent on the dedication of a single major investor; F&H isn't the only photo company that falls into this category.

I don't know anything about the gentleman who has been investing in F&H, but as financial markets drop overall, wealthy individual investors who have leveraged their holdings (borrowed against the value of their stocks to fund more investments) start getting "margin calls" -- demands from their bankers to put up a greater percentage of cash. To raise the cash, they may have to sell assets -- which are dropping in value, so they have to sell more than they would in a normal market -- leaving them with a smaller portfolio of less-valuable assets. It's possible for even a good-sized fortune be all but wiped out in just a few days of this sort of thing.

I'm sure it's always good to be rich, but right now it seems not to be quite as good as it usually is...
