Rodenstock 138mm f6.5 HR Digaron SW FLOAT

Can we get a price?

Or is it a case of "if you need to ask..."!
Most of the Rodies are between €5000 and €8000. The 105mm Alpa Switar is around €4500,-. If it is somewhere around there it sounds like a good price for a fancy piece of glass like this, but I would expect it more around the 8000 mark.

I was told near $13,000 in Alpa mount w. just aperture/iris solution !! (not e-shutter)

Just when you thought you knew what MF digital costs, they go and raise the game. Sigh.

Apparently it's too heavy for a Copal shutter - they can't support the weight without losing alignment.

Its been 1.5 years since the initial announcement. Any idea when this lens will be available for purchase?
I know some here who pre-ordered it, has anyone actually been able to get delivery?

Landed US$ price will be around $15,500 for the 138 and the 105 US landed price is around $6750 now.

This is based on my personal Alpa imports-exchange/duty/shipping and current Alpa pricing. I do not know if duties have increased this year.

Personally finding a used/mounted 120/150/180/210 is worth the hunt.

PS- Neglected to mention the Alpa SB 51 and lens hood are included in the above 138mm price.

Crazy money for a lens with no stabilization, no AF and razor thin DOF.

But I am sure it will sell.

I don't undersdtand why its taking so long for the lens to be available since it was supposed to be available about 12 months ago.
I wonder if Rodenstock just canceled it altogether.

Their website has been, "[w]e are launching our new website very soon" since years.
Rodenstock were taken over by Linos, in turn by Qioptiq who now appear to have been acquired by Excilitas, so all this may have delayed things. They do at least show an image of the 138 on their website, and the PDF says available from October 2019.

Here's the PDF (link): https://www.excelitas.com/file-download/download/public/67266?filename=HR%20Digaron%20Lenses%20brochure.pdf

Just a reminder that the 105 is available from Phase One Industrial as the Linos 5.6/105 float. Ex-Copenhagen price is around $4100.

From the front page of that brochure:
"SIMPLE & ECONOMIC"

:ROTFL:

Dave
That made me chuckle too, but since Excilitas do a lot of work in the defence and aerospace industries I guess $15k is 'economic' for clients like that. Other than for specialist purposes (e.g. copying artwork, cultural heritage etc.), this seems bonkers for most photographers. A used 120 ASPH would be much more preferable in my book (huge image circle, lighter, simpler, less flare, superb image quality etc.)

There are enough people looking for the 120 ASPH around these parts that maybe we could start a petition and convince Schneider to do a GetDPI run of lenses......pretty please S-K??

I'm very happy to have one of the last new 120 Asph lenses and have no intentions of selling it. The 138 is a very different beast and will find a place in my arsenal. To me cameras are throw away..... lenses are forever.

Based on the quantity that we (DT) have to order to continue having this lens made for our CH product lines (dtculturalheritage.com stuff), I think you'd have a hard time.

Why reveal the lenses are still in manufacture, and imply they are available, to then turn around and say that the potential purchasers would have a hard time obtaining a new one if they attempted a group purchase? Why would you not try to arrange this yourself, as a dealer, by increasing your order size by a list of pre-purchased buyers next go round?

I've appreciated your postings here as a lurker for many years, but this seems a bit of folly, perhaps. Nothing personal, I very much admire DT and yourself, but surely there is a way to connect future owners to an apparently still manufactured lens? Perhaps not. Can't always get what you want and all that.

Who knows - maybe the Rodie 135mm elements take over a year to cool/settle like Leica alleged the Noctilux glass did? :toocool:
