External Battery Life for IQ4 150

As many are aware, the full performance of what we have known as Power Sharing has not been fully realized. Digital back and/or camera body can stay awake during a battery change, but there is not a significant increase in battery duration with the IQ4 150 that we have seen from residual power coming from the XF Camera battery.

We hope that we will see improvements soon with Power Sharing performance for IQ4 150.

However, in the meantime, each and every IQ4 user has the ability to add external battery power right now.

Of course we want longer lasting internal batteries, a tethered battery does not work in many workflows. However, in those that it can, here is something that may be helpful. Note - CI does not sell this battery.

It looks like there are two nearly identical power supplies. As I understand it the one we would use is the PD version that lists 30 watts output and has USB-C. It sells for around $75. The non-PD version is around $55 and does not appear to supply the same level of power and doesn't list USB-C output.

I believe this is the correct version. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The one we're using is model # RP-PB058

Of course, it must have USB-C, anything without USB-C is going to be a non starter (pun ... intended?).

Just to be a bit of a techno bore, but the power pack is 99.16Wh (3.7x26.8Ah) were as the latest phase battery is 25.16Wh (7.4x3.4Ah) so not 10 batteries worth. Always read the watt hour capacity, not the mAH, you can only compare Wh like for like :D

As an ex user of the early Hasselblad backs which required an external power source (imagebank) when used with a technical camera, I can attest to the fact that attaching an additional wire and finding a place to attach the battery pack itself was a pain in the butt.
Phase One batteries are small, relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of the camera and easily fit in one’s pocket.

I’ve got a couple of external power banks, and they are fantastic when I am sitting for hours on end in one spot. And a power bank is a fairly reliable way to make sure one doesn’t run out of power in the middle of an extended exposure, esp with the IQ4/XF’s still flaky power management. But it’s also true that 4 extra P1 batteries are not exactly a boat anchor, and they can get you through a lot of images, esp. if one is using a tech camera rather than the XF.
