    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

I had a fun weekend sort of...fun with friends...not fun finding that my water problem wasn't from a leak on the roof (after getting a new roof) but rather a leak in a sprinkler pipe....anyway definitely not as much fun as Jono.....

Arne, Sensitivity is quite good. The D80-IR has a Hoya R-72 filter in place of the AA/IR cut filters. It is either the same or -1 to 2 eV depending on the scene and the light. Thanks.

I was away for a brief while. Here are some (out of a few thousands) from Barcelona (D300).

Yes Jono he did lose his shirt....not sure that he would appreciate my posting it. We are out in Arizona and it is hot, hot, hot! I did like the light though.....next up I was playing with Guy's "old" 180mm lens and then I added the Canon 250D close up lens....

Jono, You were not moved by the nice, artsy, church pics I posted?

That girl is a bit young to be my friend and when I was her age (she looks to be <20), all my friends were book worms.

The reason I noticed her was the camera she was using to make photos of her grumpy boyfriend or husband (only his elbow is visible. Trust me, he wasn't photogenic). Look closely (I could post a 900pixel wide crop of the cam alone but that would not be very interesting) at the attached picture. I suggested to her to mount the hood properly on the lens for better results.

Barcelona is a fabulous place. Absolutely fantastic light, friendly folks and some pretty faces as well. Highly recommended for photography.
(Guy and Jack should move their workshops there!)

Terry, Thanks. I am enjoying your fun with your new cam.

I will post more once I find space to park my images securely...

    Nice shots all.

    There were church pictures?

My 20 yr old female friends NEVER looked like that young lady. Not by a LONG shot. Actually, now that I think of it, neither did my 30 yr old friends... sad really.

Oh well, at least you're not her Mom or Dad listening to her process her love every night for some rat-faced Gumby.

Terry - the 180/2.8 has got to be one of the best bargains in Nikon land.

So many great photos on this thread. Here's a humble contribution from me, from one of my three days in Norway. D80 with 70-300 ED.

AF malfunction (50/1.8 on D300)- times like this made me miss my RF gear (not this one shot though!)

90% all the pics I made were using the 50/1.8 AF and D300. The pics I posted are jpgs resized.

Stuart, The locals really dress well.

they start early (the parents spoke Catalan)

    and have some classy shops.

the majority of the tourists we encountered were Spanish, among the foreigners, Germans, Dutch/Belgians, Japanese, Brittish, Middle eastern and Chinese. Only one American (a big fellow from Iowa) we talk to was actually going to be working there (we helped him out with the language bit at a local market).

In all, most English speaking folks were British, Aussies, New Zealanders and fewer N.Americans.

Carlos, Most buildings there are covered up for renovation. This one I lucked out with a 28mm lens that vignettes just right. It was really scorching sunlight and hot. Thanks.

    Terry, Thanks.

Carlos, I think I figured out my settings. For objects at 2-3meter distance, set the focus scale to 0.5meter at f/1.8 ~f/2.2 and meter accurately.

This one was deliberately shot this way.

A proud moment: my daughter Mel decided to do a self-portrait similar to mine. I let her use the D40x and gave her some basic instructions on setting up the shot, plus I loaned her one of my black t-shirts. Afterwards, she sat with me and we processed the images. I did the conversion according to her specifications (she said what she wanted and I made it happen).

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

The weather was nice yesterday, so I equipped myself with my bad-at-ISO-over-200-Nikon-D80 and my slow-in-every-way-Nikkor-70-300-ED to shoot some tigers under the baking sun. But on the way... (insert very long story here)..., so I ended up at a car racing circuit.

The cars obviously did what cars usually do: drove around in circles with no apparent purpose. But in a big, white tent, with bad to horrible lighting, and lots of beauty and energy, there were singers.

And before I knew what hit me, I had spent my 8GB of memory, and all the daylight that once were, on grainy photos of pretty girls. That's what I call a perfect day

A buddy of mine just picked up the 70-300 VR lens and let me play with it. I would add it to my repertoire as well if the 18-200 VR wasn't so darned good and covered most of the range.

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Thanks Arne. Those are some the most photogenic girls I've seen ever. great singers too.

I agree on the 70-300 VR, Carlos. The older ED version that I have is unfortunately rather unpredictable. Some combinations of focal length, aperture and subject distance, particularly wide open at infinity, are really bad, while close up, it's in fact quite decent, but it focuses as slow as my old 105mm micro.

The girl with red hair was shot at 300mm wide open, and all I've read about this lens indicates that it should be blurry. But close up, it works fine, and at full resolution, you can almost count the layers of make-up on her face

Couple of shots (IR) using the 70-300 AF-D ED at the long end. This is the best IR lens I have for long FLs.

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Then, today, a friend told me who the girls are, and that there are millions of photos of them on the internet, and I'm not even exaggerating. Just search for "Girly Berry". As superstar as you can become in this country.

Hmmm... wonder if.... yeah, as if... keep on dreaming

Here's one more anyway, somewhat sweaty, during a break that lasted a couple of seconds or something like that. Same D80, same 70-300:

No, no, she's looking at my camera, thinking "Wow, that must be some camera. Easy to use, so that even old people can handle it. Must get one of those for my grandfather... "

Oh, and did I mention that there were others singers in the group as well? Three more actually, but for some reason, they rarely made it to the front of my camera. Just look at this one on the left, trying to get away, while the green one is lusting for my D80 again. Looks like she wants to trade it for the microphone, doesn't it

In that case, you just need to find older singers/performers to photograph, Jorgen.

    I tried that last year (S3 with micro Nikkor 105/2.8 @ ISO1600):

But girls are more fun. Unfortunately , most of them end their singing career before they are 25. Too many teenagers waiting to take over

Fans (and some of these bands- someone ought to tell the "Doors" their age! ) always get old.

Amidst all the noise, there is sometimes silence.

Your images are so good that you will definitely become their favourite photographer from now on, and soon you as well will be world-famous in the entire Thailand.
That is, provided you send them the captures of course
