Carlos, you don't know the meaning of "slow" until you've taken a train in Thailand

My favourite train ride is the one from Bangkok to Aranya Pratet at the Cambodian border. It's around 250km and takes five hours or more, for the outrageous price of $1.40 or thereabout. That's less than 30 cents per hour. Must be good value for sure. Only third class though

People I meet along the ride tend to make the journey feel shorter though. I'm not sure if that detracts from or adds to the value of the ticket

    Here's an example, E-1 with OM Zuiko 35mm f/2.0:

On the border, there's a big market, and as anywhere else in Thailand, there's entertainment. Here's one from a couple of years ago, OM-3 with Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 and Konica VX400:

Yeah, yeah... I know, off topic cameras as well as lenses, but they do illustrate the dangers of riding on the train in Thailand, don't you think

There is a concerted effort among the cities in Holland to change their impressions. Here is one attempt.

The real Thailand is not in the city. It's in the countryside, on the water, with people celebrating, dancing and singing. D80 with 80-200 AF-S @ 200mm and f/5.

One of my son's friends at a recent Birthday party at our house. I won't get into the generational disconnect I feel when I see a pretty and intelligent young lady with ink. She was quite proud of her Rosie the Riveter... a bit of nostalgia for me but from well before her time.

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Last weekend in Yosemite was mixed weather of snow flurries, showers and blizzard conditions in the high country....so much for fall??? Here is a 3 image stitch (31 mpx) during a moment of partial clearing, and right before another heavy snow flurry. Nikon D3, Zeiss ZF Makro-Planar 100/2.0. Stitched in CS3 with "photomerge" then B+W conversion using Gohrman-Holbert B+W action, selective area level and curve adjustments, and finally palladium toning.

I know...not that creative but the weather just didn't cooperate all weekend long. Had planned to hit the high country and south to Bishop, but the pass was closed for 2 days....so I made the best with the breaks in weather that were given to me.

Lovely photo, Vivek. Actually, I tried the Nikkor 10.5 yesterday, and the Tokina Fisheye zoom as well, both on the S5. I found both of them to have a lot of CA. How is your experience with regards to that?

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Hi Jorgen, No CA issues whatsoever with my sample (some are reported to have this problems) of the 10.5 Nikkor (D40x, D300). I keep the front element immaculately clean all the time (a must).

It is prone to flare when pointed towards the Sun though.

At the old Fornebu Airport in Oslo, which seized to operate 10 years ago, there are two seaplane harbours. The seaplanes are still there, but on borrowed time, since the authorities want to move them far, far away, to a place where they will be of no use to anybody.

First though, Vivek, I must say I love those swan portraits! I think you should keep doing them. They remind me of Laszlo Layton's Pictorial Zoology, only with living subjects.

I quite agree with Jorgen about the waterfowl. The EDIT option disappears after 8 hrs. Don't hold me to that 8 hr figure, that was ascertained by casual (non-scientific) observation.

S5 and 500 Reflex again. I'm amazed how well this combo tackles the mid-day tropical sun.

Last one today. S5 and 500 once again (I'm practicing, trying to get to know this lens).

You're killing me with these images Jorgen, you really know how to spot them!

I have some ozzy friends visiting tonight and I've been showing them your Thai images, we all agree that they're priceless, very telling if you know what you're looking at.

On a different note, I guess you can now see why I was recommending the S5.
