Thanks, Jono. Lots of fun taking this one, with parrots crawling all over me while I tried to find out where the shutter release was

Nice convertible. I always wished I had one of those. A bit too hot and/or sunny and/or rainy for that in this country though.

Good stuff here. Andree and Jono just taught me something new re flowers and wide angles. Stunning flower shots. Or Jorgens parakeet portrait, it's fabulous. Or that cowboy of Bob's, I'm speechless ... such lovely nails probably never saw a live horse in their entire life

This lovely creature (stoppy and unappealing) has the romantic name of India . . . but she is universally referred to as the 'Rat Pony' around here!

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

I'm still often gobsmacked by the D3 - these are just a couple of dreaded pet shots in the kitchen in the late afternoon. Boring perhaps, however, both were taken handheld with the 105 macro wide open on continuous autofocus.

This one is at 2800 ISO

This one is at 3600 ISO

they are both straight from aperture without any work done (certainly no noise reduction or anything like that) - to me the colour and life considering the ISO is quite remarkable.

    Jono,
If you continue like this, I'll have to put you on the "Censored" list due to unhealthy influence on my NAS.

The more photos you show, the clearer it becomes that the D3 is a must-have, and there's no way I can afford it right now (and buy a Sigma 100-300 to maintain the reach that the 80-200 has on DX... )

    Jono,
I left the youngsters to their own devices after dinner and arrived at the hotel six hours earlier. The next morning started rather slowly.
I like the natty attire of the Church warden. Especially his reaction to your camera!

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Well, I gotta say that Nikon is back with a vengence.

Duffing around the house shooting my dog, flowers and other camera gear is one thing ... but all day, non-stop wedding work is another ... which is why I own this camera and pretty much no other reason. So, the D3 had it's trial by fire at this past Saturday's wedding job ... and I gotta say that I am impressed.

A dim lit cavern of a church with horrible lighting ISO 1600 with the 24-70 hand held and I was able to pull a fine 17"X22" print with no problem. That is what I call ... "fun pictures with a Nikon" ... MAKING MONEY !!! : -)

    Jorgen,
The Singapore shot is very nice. You really make that S3 sing. Your photos really have a unique look to them. I guess it is a combination of your style and the S3.

    Marc,
Your amazing photo in the dim church would make anyone a believer.

    HI Carlos
Are we allowed to post cat pictures? I thought it was specifically banned . Since it obviously isn't, I took these three character studies today.

We have this beautiful half abyssinian called Echo:

Here she is relaxing on the garden table watching for birds or baby bunnies to murder: (D3 with 105 macro).

Here she is sitting on the kitchen table wondering if:
    a) she can reach the parrot sitting on the top of it's cage:

    b) kill the dog (big) who is sitting below her on the floor:

second and third with the voigtlander 58 1.4 at f1.4 in our kitchen (handheld, no flash)

She's an abyssinian? She looks very much like our little cat whom we believe to be an Egyptian Mau (she has an "M" on her forehead, stripes on her back and tail and spots on her belly).

Well, it is only fair to offer dog pictures in response...though they come paired with those of my father. Taken with an F6 and the 24-70 at 28mm...wide open.

You can see it is a very formal household, what with the shirtless eating at the table right from the pot and the dog leaning on the table...

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

    Hi,

Mostly i shoot Leica but I also do shoot Nikon... This picture was PP after the style of Robert Farber... especially as he presented images in his book By The Sea.

Its intended to be dreamy... almost otherworldly.

    The jpg looses something...

The base image was well focused and taken on a brilliantly clear day... it was really an exercise in PP. I think i have come close... but of course there is something about his composition...

    Thanks for looking.

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Today I went to watch a friend of mine in a US Open qualifying event. Went with only one lens 70-300.... a few shots

Well I tried to turn the lens into a macro lens not exactly a close focusing one probably couldn't get closer than 4 to 5 feet at full zoom....

    Terry,
Isn't that a lens a winner! It even works for macro. It is my most used lens in my Nikon bag (and it is my cheapest Nikon lens, now.)
Have you tried live view for macro? It is amazing.
    Nice golf pictures.

Thanks Cindy. My only issue so far with the lens is user error in making sure that I have a fast enough shutter at the long end of the zoom as I do have some shots with camera shake from this batch today and when I was in Carmel.

I have to always be on the lookout for that issue. I don't like to crank my iso too high on the D300. I still think it is a fantastic lens for the money.

You can see it is a very formal household, what with the shirtless eating at the table right from the pot and the dog leaning on the table...

Guys: please stop making me regret my lens choices! Now I shall have to try harder with what I have! Andree, what were the shot settings for the B&W image?

    Re: Fun Pictures with Nikon

Many great images posted in this thread. This one is not so great but it was fun. On my boat after a model shoot at the sandbar. Two closest girls were the models and my son and his friend were the "boy props" .
