Osman: +1. I really like these two also. Are you a mycologist, or do you just like the way they look. Both of these photos are great and the mushrooms are very interesting. When I was younger, my Rugby Team were all amateur mycologists! Cheers, Matt

Matt, just saw your message. Thank you, my friend.
No, I am not a mycologist (I guess it means a mushroom expert), but I know a group of mycologists (I wonder if they know this term) and sometimes go out with them for some close-ups. But I'm told that this is a hit-and-miss affair, because some rain is necessary for these colorful fellows to come into being.

Osman: They are beautiful! I've gone on mushroom hunts with friends. They swear you to secrecy over their favorite "hunting ground". In Oregon people gather truffles that are practically worth their weight in gold. In our yard, when it rains, they spring up overnight (ordinary mushrooms, not truffles). Thanks for sharing. BTW, how did your photoshoot at the soccer match work out? Cheers, Matt

Truffles worth their weight in gold! No wonder they are selling them in powder form!

As for the soccer final, my objective was to tour around the marketplace on the Asian side, home to one of the contestants and photograph the fanatics with their colorful attires, having a sip of beer before going to the stadium. I hope I was successful. I shall process them once I finish the backlog due to work on the Pergamon albums I just finished.

Jorgen: Nice racetrack photo. The second barricade photo on your blog is terrific. The tires don't look like they'd resist any armored vehicle (or a souped up racing Toyota). Last, i heard, they're staying put while parliament/etc. is sorted out. That's a good use for those burned out tires from the "Drifting Show Competition"

Fultonpics: Beautiful hockey action. Best Buy knows what they're doing with those signs! welcome back.

    Cheers, Matt

Have to post one more. Coming about at the NE buoy marker. Tonight was the start of the Lake Union "Duck Dodge" Races. About 60 sailboats race each other. The classes are, i believe, Fast Boats, Slow Boats and Sailing Dinghies. Today it rained really hard for about 20 mins. The kind of rain that makes you go to the window and wonder if this is it! Then it cleared up for the race. Nice wind, too. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Matt

Steve/Lloyd: Thank you gentlemen! Steve, that was a "Cheech and Chong-like" bit. I'll be posting some more Burlesque (some I can't post! ) and Duck Dodge shots. As usual, I took too many photos (is there such a thing?). The color of the lake last night was really varied, and interesting. Lloyd, can't complain about the ISO performance!

Does anybody use the Camera profiles in Lightroom? I.e. "D3xmode 1", etc.

I'm safe in Pattaya, but my favourite Italian restaurant here just closed since a curfew is apparently being activated here too. Oh well... I guess I could do without one more glass of grappa anyway

On a more serious note; the red leaders have shown their true nature today, burning down the second largest shopping mall in Asia and threatening several newspapers and TV-station, burning torching one of them, since they were "too government friendly". I'm safe and sound though, and I've checked that my closest friends are too. Hoping for better weather tomorrow.

Matt; that sailboat photo is great. Now I want to go to Scandinavia to go sailing...

There's not much one can do really, other than cancel meetings, go to the gym and have a good meal now and then. Oh, and try out my new mountainbike, with a zillion gears, hydraulic disk brakes and all the latest high-tech stuff. I had a puncture on the first day though. No high-tech can prevent that aparently

Did I mention the new OM Zuiko 500mm reflex? Unused, and I mean unused. Doesn't fit on my Fujis unfortunately, but wow, what a lens.

Jorgen: Tubeless tires with Stan's sealant. You can run at lower tire pressures and self-seals minor punctures.

    Thanks Matt. Much appreciated.

BTW, I wholeheartedly agree about the Stan's. I even run that in my road tires.

Osman: Thank you. I haven't used this lens in a while. I remember the excellent photos that you posted. Although, I cheated and used a tripod here. I believe this lens doesn't get the respect it deserves because it's a "zoom" and not a "prime"! Seriously under-rated!

More Duck Dodge Race. NW corner of Lake Union. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Matt

Re: The New and Improved Fun with Nikon Images!

    Nice sailboat shots, Matt.

I admit that I'm one of those who wish there were a 4/400 prime version of that lens so that it would be somewhat smaller and lighter and pumping less dust into the barrell.

And besides I know I would use the zoom version at the long end all the time because I would use it for bird shooting.
I've been waiting for a 4/400mm for many years. Admittedly I'm tired of waiting and I do have considered the zoom version.

Does the 200-400 zoom tend to be better at one of the ends (like most zooms), or does it perform equally over the entire focal range ?

Somewhat off topic, but just to update...

It has been somewhat unnerving over the last few days. We are about two miles from where the main protest group was located. Stocked up with food, water, and stayed out of harm's way. Any temptation to take photos was firmly squashed. Maybe on the weekend. Office where I work was closed for safety. So working from home.

I just feel sad for this country.

    Cheers,

    John
