Great shots. Very interesting Faire. (I always loved the color I got from my D200, and this is a great reminder. Sold mine to my brother, and have often regretted that choice.)

Re: The New and Improved Fun with Nikon Images!

Lloyd and Osman thanks for the kind comments! I'm pretty happy with the D200, and like the look it gets, but I feel like I'm pushing the limits of it. Great cam to shoot and carry though. I'm particularly happy with my 50 f/1.4 though.

The Faire is a blast! The crowd provides some of the best people watching/shooting I've ever seen. I wish I hadn't run out of battery as early as I did. My spare got left in my bedroom after I pulled it off of the charger! (D'oh!). The sheer elaborateness of the costumes that these people put together blows my mind. Pretty fancy stuff.

Haha, maybe if Pres Obama were a a bit of a nerd that really loved jousting! That'd be quite the Presidential hobby: Jousting. Secret Service would have a field day here, with the number of odd looking people toting various swords around.

Thanks for all the compliments, all!

Re: The New and Improved Fun with Nikon Images!

These need a little explanation. The guy here is a cousin, a former lead singer in a Ska punk band, who although very politically apathetic, decided he'd had enough of the shenanigans the local school district was pulling, and submitted his candidacy for the School Board. He is very determined to get in and clean house. His wife, a firefighter, was a little hesitant about the idea at first, but is fully on board now. We took these shots for his website and campaign brochures last night. Their 7-week-old daughter hasn't yet expressed an opinion.

D3, 70-200/2.8 VR II @ ISO 800, SB-800 fired remotely via Radio Poppers, and through a shoot through umbrella.

BTW, I live in the same school district, and am also unhappy about what's going on. I did warn him, however, that if he gets elected, and my property taxes go up even higher because of the school district levy, he can expect is face to show up in, shall we say, "embarrassing" places on the web.

Lloyd: Excellent "campaign" photos! I'd vote for him. Looks like his family's gong to be using the school district for a while.
Bob: Cool photo. Congrats. She's getting a lot of press today.
Jorgen: Really like the last one. Composition/color/angle -

Lloyd, as I will never tire of saying; you are a master of portraits. When I look at them, not only I see elegantly and masterfully constructed art objects, but I 'see' how your subjects feel at that particular instant. This, I believe, cannot be achieved by technical and artistic mastery alone, it requires a 'way' of establishing mutual warmth between the subjects and the photographer. Thanks for sharing, my friend.

Re: The New and Improved Fun with Nikon Images!

Took a quick stab today at fashion style lighting during the day. I had attended a lecture the previous night and figured I'd give it a whirl. I shanghai'd my favorite human model and set up in the backyard. Now, I own a pair of el cheapo Savage 150W strobes plus shoot-thru umbrellas. No dishes or softboxes. I could only get one light to fire remotely as the other light is optically slaved and it was too bright to detect the primary unit going off. Also, I added all makeup in post. I used some high fashion images as a guide. That's my excuse for the makeup. I'd like opinions on the shot.

Thanks guys. The fellow who taught the class billed it as a workshop but it was more of a lecture and he wasn't really prepared for it. This class is part of the Shoot Miami chapter of Meetup.com. The seasoned photogs (I guess that includes me) were able to glean some useful info, but I'm afraid the newer members were a bit lost. As an educator, I have to say he did not make it an easy class. Unlike the fine classes taught by Jack & Guy.

One more. The portraits of her were taken very much ad hoc, at the back of the pit, with light coming in from the back opening and all the mechanics on the floor between us disassembling and assembling three broken gearboxes with less than three hours to the next start. Gears and oil everywhere and great fun for all

Gee, thanks Jorgen ... oh wait ... I bet that in a couple of minutes you'll say she is actually not for me but for Klaus, and that I'll have to do with the beast

Anyway, I love that Beauty & Beast shot, it's priceless
