Nikon "Street"

Steen, it was your zf50 on a F3HP that got me here. I'll be joining you with the F3HP early next year. Love film, love Nikon ...and am nutz (NUTZ) about street.

I started around Dec09 (D90) after an accident and am now at 45days over the two years. Was a day a month then a fortnight and now I can do (and I do) 10hour days of constant walking ...I'll increase my days next year and have energy like a horse at the gate (that might be an apology).

I'll start with my trophy pic and then it can all be downhill after that (grin).

April 7th 2011, my eldest son's birthday and I had taken my bicycle into the city to extend my range beyond the trams. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him and raced ahead, leaping off my bike like a marine out of a chopper. I had my back to him and had to unpack from my backpack and stood as I saw his shoes. Was the craziest sunset, blazing orange and I had been playing in it for 3days.

During a recent trip to London I ran across the yearly Caribbean Carnival in Notting Hill, a nice opportunity for some colorful, continuous 3D-tracking .-)

From a political gathering where some local politicians met the crowd in the street at night.
D610 at ISO 6400 and AF-S Nikkor 1.8/85mm wide open, going Black&White instead of using noise reduction.
(The first two images have already been shown in the specific D610 thread).

Just a side observation, and something I've always been curious about whenever I evaluate street imagery: Why is it that in most cases detailing activities of life, mono just works better for me than color, yet I of course prefer and enjoy color when the image itself is about color (as in the one immediately above)? I'll pick on Steen here -- actually compliment him! -- for his in my view "very appropriate" use of each in his mono post 293 and color series post 283/284 above this one.

I get your point, Jack, and I agree.
In street shots there is ideally something going on, something is happening, a moment that contains some sort of a history in itself.
And in that context colors can sometimes be not only completely irrelevant but even distracting and stealing the mental focus from the condensed moment or the state or the activity.

Btw. I have become a big fan of your recent NXD prescription for Black&White processing:
Capture NXD >> Picture Control = Monochrome >> Toning = Sepia >> Toning Saturation =1
Thank you for your hint about that adjustment, it works really well in NXD
I actually may go back and see if some of the above color images may gain some strength by being processed in black-and-white with that NXD prescription.
