Shooting presets and custom settings presets - how do you use them?

Curious how people make best use of Shooting Menu presets and Custom Settings presets. I have different settings for tripod work, action, snapshots, but I use parallel settings for Shooting and Custom (A with A, B with B etc). I have a feeling that presets could be used in a better way.

Good point. I've always found it a bit confusing. I have the settings files that I use (for Canon and Nikon) available for download (since I keep getting email requests). For me, simplicity is best--I just set the camera one way and tweak via "my menu" what I might need for a specific situation; it keeps the error rate down in picking up the camera for a quick shot.

I use custom settings for portrait, etc from a spreadsheet availanle on another nikon forum website. I shoot raw so I just have them there in case I'll be shooting jpg.

I have found these links, but honestly I haven't looked much into it myself.

There's a spreadsheet "D300 Custom Settings Spreadsheet Version 1.1" with settings here:
http://www.nikonians.org/forums/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=149&topic_id=104364
in the first post click on the "Attachment # 1 (zip file)"

At the bottom of this page

you will find this:

And there's a section with settings here:

I use the nikonian's one. The d200 worked well so when I got the d300, I applied those as well.
