Nikon in Thailand hit by flooding

This was a disaster waiting to happen. The Rojana Industrial Estate where Nikon is located is in a very flood exposed area, and little has been done to prevent the situation. Although Nikon is hard hit, they are not the worst. Western Digital with 37,000 employees in Thailand has mostly suspended production and Toyota and Honda have closed down temporarily.

Water levels are still rising in Ayutthaya and there's still a few weeks left of the monsoon season. The long term consequences are unknown, and theoretically, the same situation could arise next year.

Really sad news!

On the other hand I cannot understand WHY companies build sensitive production sites in areas which can be easily flooded, exposed to earth quakes etc :confused::confused:

Hopefully, their plan is realistic, but Honda in Thailand has estimated that it will take 6 months for them to start production again. Different products though. Another question is if the area can be protected against future floodings.
