Excellent photos, Jolly. I still use cameras of all kinds of vintages. They all have their personalities and quirks, but they are also all better at capturing the moment than I am.

My first DSLR too. I have bitter sweet memories. The kit cost me 1600 Euros only for the camera to die a BGLOD. Nikon's denial of the flaw until much later did make an impression.

Here is one shot I made with one D70 that I converted to IR (this died as well).

Untitled by Vivek Iyer, on Flickr

I still have two of them. Their Sony CCDs are serving me very well in some important experiments.

    The Sony CCD in D70:

A crop (the tiny dots are the microlenses atop each pixel):

Now I have developed means and methods to get rid of the microlenses and the Bayer dyes without doing this sort of damage. Extremely useful.

    Amazing, never noticed it !

My first was a D70 but I had the nice idea to drop it from my backpack ... then it came the D70s which i found superior, a very nice camera.

    Then the D200 ... D300 ... D700 and .... X-PRO1 ... lol that's not a Nikon as you know

The D70 was followed by a D80 (converted to IR and worked very well), several D40x', D200s and a D300 (none of these died on me and were without any factory flaws). The D300 still works. Heavy beast compared to the mirrorless cams.

The D700 was an year too late, thankfully!

what Rayyan's hands clapped, Vivek !

and Rayyan, love your Andalusian musician shots
flamenco is one of my top three favourite music genres and Andalusia is definitely flamenco land, but it doesn't quite look like flamenco here with those specific instruments ...

Re: Fun with a Nikon D70

    Fabulous photos, Rayyan, Steen, Vivek.

Oh... and that German camera. With the current second hand price of this old Nikon, one should be able to buy around 40 D70 cameras for the price of the MM. Now, how many 35mm lenses for the Summicron, I wonder...??

I think I have to buy some batteries for the S3 when I come home, just to see how my vintage camera is doing.

One neat feature of the D70 (and may be the D70s as well) is the ability to flash sync all the way up to the highest shutter speed available in the camera (manual flash only and with a suitable flash). I do not know of any DSLR that offers this.

I still can recognize some of the fabulous color images you have posted here if I see them even if they appear without your watermark.

    No X-Pro1, Jorgen?

    Thanks, Vivek.

There's no way around buying an X-Pro1 for me. It's obviously perfect for my travels. But it's expensive, and I've just spent a little fortune on another Fuji and lenses; the GX 680 III. I picked up the "light travel version", the IIIs (only around 3.5 kg with a lens and viewfinder) yesterday, and there are some fantastic lenses waiting for it at home.

But I have considered selling all of my Nikon gear and go for m4/3, X-Pro1 and film only. Nikon is what I feel the least attached to, even if it's what I've used the most the last 7 years. But what if I do that and don't feel at home with the new Fuji

I have fond memories of my D70 & D70s and the couple of D50 kits I bought on the road when I wanted a travel camera on location but neglected to bring a camera with me.

These great shots are a reminder that megapixels aren't everything!
