Yes, Nikon D800 and D800E work with AI and AI-S lenses.
But just like all the former high end Nikon models they only work, i.e. meter, with the AI and AI-S lenses in A (Aperture Priority) or M (Manual) modes,
not in P (Program) or S (Shutter priority) exposure modes.
