I'm trying to help a friend who just got back from several weeks in Nova Scotia to discover a problem with his pictures. There's vertical banding that's only visible in certain image tones, but occasionally very visible. I had him take a picture of a blank sky and underexpose it:
(this is a 100% pixel crop).
His camera apparently needs a circuit board replaced. In the mean time I'm puzzling out a way to salvage his pictures. I've been experimenting with layering the noise image over his regular images, and cancelling out the banding with some combination of blend modes, inversion, and opacity. So far I've only managed to make things worse.
Any brilliant thoughts?
